The Great Unclean One is done

I am happy to finally show off a mini that is completed. This is my Great Unclean One and he is the mightiest of the Nurgle Daemons. The Great Unclean One comes with several options for heads and weapons, so I made the one that I liked best. This is also one of the most classic setups, so there are many that look just like this out there, probably painted a lot better too, but this is what I can do.

I had a bit of a problem getting the eyes to pop, so I brought the daemon with me to Warhammer Oslo, where Bertil helped me a bit. He is much better with fine lines, so he made a thin black line in each eye, and then he used some orange to make the eyes pop a bit. I am not sure if I can make the thin black line for my next model with big eyes (maybe if I make the black first and then use yellow on each side?), but the orange I can fix by myself. The eyes are sort of reptilian, and that looks very well for this model.

There are lots of gory details that you can have on the model. Some of them can be covered up with alternate parts if you don't like them. I chose to use most, but not all. One of my favorites was the intestines that comes out of the cut in his belly, and also the little nurgling being crushed under the bulk of the big daemon.

There are some gushes and wounds in his side and on his back too, I used a painting guide from Duncan Rhodes from he worked at Game Workshop as inspiration, but I did not follow it all the way.

To get the wounds to look like they were infested, I had a little bit of Nurgle Rot in the deepest parts of them. I used yellow to represent the fat under the skin, as I saw Duncan do that in the video.

I was thinking about making the metal very rusty, but desided against it in the end. I also wanted to try adding some tufts to the base as I think that looks a lot better than a totally flat one when I have room to do it.

Here are some more details of the unclean/dirty skin and deep wounds. There are a lot of boils on the skin, but I decided to not paint them in another color after all as I felt quite happy with the way the skin looked after I got all the greens on the model.

There are six nurglings that came in the set, but I could not find a way to fit them all on the model, so I decided to go with the ones I liked best. I placed this little one with a chain with a flaming ball to sit on the top of the Great One. I am really happy with the way I made the horns, and I plan to use this color every time I paint horns in the future. This is a contrast color.

Originally I thought I woud have the intestines a pinkish white so I used a light fleshtone on them, then I felt they needed to look a bit gorey so I added Nurgles Rot on them and it made them a little more gray, but all in al I am quite happy with the look, And talking about happy, that Nurgling standing in front looks really happy too. He looks like a proud little daemon. The one being crushed under the gut isn't that lucky and don't look quite so happy. But it is a great look on him so I had to add hm to this.

All in all I am very happy with this model (can't really call it a mini when it is this big), and I look forward to painting up more Nurgle in the future. Nurgle is probably the Chaos faction with most big models. I have this Get Unclean One and this is probably the biggest, but I also have a Bloab Rotspawn model and the smaller Beasts of Nurgle and a Horticulus Slimux and I would very much like to get my hands on a Glotkin.

So, I am back again

This last 6 months has been quite troublesome in my real life, with events including selling my house and moving by myself to a much smaller place. While we worked on selling the house there was not much time for building models, as the house needed to be readied for showing to potential buyers in a couple of hours sometimes. That meant no time to start to clean up a work desk and store away projects I was working on.

I have moved now, and yesterday I started up again, and that is quite fitting since it is the beginning of a new year. I built the body of a Great Unclean One, and after work today I plan to finish him by adding the head, his arms and some remaining details.

I have burned myself so many times by pledging what to do throughout a year, so I will not do that this year. But what I will do is to try and get a lot more painting and building done than earlier years. The last years I think the biggest setback has been doing the painting, because I have tons of models that are assembled and quite often primed, but not painted. And I do think I am better at building then I am at painting.

With that said, I still want to say a little about what I plan to be working on in the near future. I plan to finish the Great Unclean One today, then I can prime him outside as soon as the weather permits it and get him inside quick so the primer can dry in a good temperature. I don't know exactly how I want to paint him up, but I will look at some painting videos on Youtube and pictures, and see what I come up with.
I plan to use him for AoS, even though he can be used in Warhammer 40.000 as well, but for 40K my Chaos army is very themed around Chaos Space Marines, and the idea I have for that army in my head does not include Daemons. For AoS I have some things painted up but not much. Of the things that I need to compare the Great Unclean One with is a unit of Nurgle Plague Drones, but they don't need to look alike as they are quite different, and a partially painted Beast of Nurgle, but I might prime that again and start over if I find a good way to paint the Great Unclean One that differs from what I have done with the Beast. I also have  another big model, sort of Bloab Rotspawned-thingy (think I made a mix between Bloab and one of the others) but I don't think I ever got around to painting it, so I need to find that in one of my many boxes at a later time and paint that sort of the same way.

I have also brought home my Bretonnian models that I never have gotten around to build or paint, and I plan to use them for my New Year New Army (NYNA) project for 2022.
NYNA to me will not be done in the time schedule that Games Workshop have in their official event, but I would like to see if I can build an army thought out the year, and who knows, maybe that could be an Armies on parade entry come October/November? If I am to compete this year it should be an AoS themed board as the last time I participated (and got 3rd place) I used a 40K Ork setup.
I am not sure how I would field a Cities of Sigmar army, but while trying to sleep last night I thought of a way I could field a Gloomspite Gitz army with some giants in the middle of the board, lots of Goblins and Squigs on one side, and something else on the other side (Trolls maybe).

I will see what I have painted up when the time gets nearer and what I can field. I have ordered some Cities of Sigmar units from the current range, and I expect I might get them this weekend or next at the latest.

I plan to start painting Goblins on Squigs (mostly Boingrot Bounderz I believe) in the near future, as I have quite a lot of them primed here at my apartment. I also have lots of unbuilt at a storage unit not too far away when I have painted what I have built so far (if I ever get that far) as I brought with me all my Goblin stuff back home from storage at my cabin. There are also some trolls in the group I have at home that I would like to paint up as soon as possible.

The last thing I have a plan for working on (painting and repairing)are the old Warhammer scenery that I started to build last year. All my sets are built and primed now, and some of the sets have started to be painted while others are just primed. But some of them got damaged in the move, so I need to do some repairs as well as painting.

And as I wrote that last section I remembered that there are one more big thing I would like to paint, and that's my Giants (Sons of Behemat as they are called now). I finished one regular giant and one big one before everything stopped when we put the house up for sale. But the rest of that army is primed and just waiting to be painted. I believe there are one big giant and if I am not mistaken five regular giants to paint. Might be more regular giants too, I am not completely sure right now. I love seeing those big models come to life, and although I am not 100% happy with the ones I have painted, I am happy enough that I will proudly present them as part of an army, either in a Sons of Behemat army or as mercenaries in the Gloomspite Gitz army.

Well, that is all for now. Hopefully I will get in to a good, steady rhythm of building and painting, so I will have things to post here on a regular basis this year.

Long awaited update

A long time has passed since my last update. I will once again try to get better to use this blog for what it was intended.

I thought I would use this update to give you  little update on all my armies, and next time I do the same then hopefully things will show that I have achieved something...

We'll start with Age of Sigmar (Warhammer FB in the labels in this blog), and what they call The Grand Alliance of Order

The Sylvaneth army has been primed again, this time with a light primer, and I will paint almost everything but the leaves with the new Contrast paints. I have a dark brown and a dark yellowish brown that I will use for the wood parts and then I will see how I will paint the occasional weapons they have that is not wood. I will use autumn colors like orange and browns for the leaves with an occasional green leaf in the mix. I have quite a lot left to build, but I also have some of the models painted with the contrast paints. I have an idea on how I will make the bases look like Forrest, and I will try it out on a few of the smaller trees. I name all the characters in this army for the Latin names for different trees,

Duardin (Dwarfs) this army is an old one, and I have several painted units of Dwarfs that are ready for games. Some of them are not legal units in the game anymore as the Duardins have been robbed of most of their units in the latest years. Most of the painted Dwarfs were painted up for my Armies on Parade entry a few years back (2017) and this is an army I would love to revisit and finish more of. I have a big box of old metal Dwarfs that are painted  but that I would like to repaint to get them in my own colors and style, and I also have lots of boxes with units still on sprues. I even have several units that are partially built or partially painted. When I started this army they were called Dwarfs, then they became Duardin, and now the army is included in Cities of Sigmar where they work together with former Empire troops. I don't think I have much Empire stuff, but I have several Bretonnian Knights that I can paint up and use instead.
The latest addition to this army are the old metal Slayer figures, they are in the mail from different sellers in Europe.
I have an old fortress that I could build and with a few modifications use as a home town for this army. I just need some plasticard or something similar so that I can have some cannon emplacements along the walls. The leader of my dwarfs are The Low King Thorir Thorgrimsson, and I will eventually also make a human General for the human elements.

An army that is sort of a steampunk spin-off from the Duardin are the Kharadron Overlords.
I plan to have a little army of them, but it might grow big over time. I have several boxes of these short dudes to assemble and paint. So far I have started to paint some characters to try and find the look for my army, and I have also painted up one of their smallest sky vessels that I just have to add the two parts together and do the base to call it done. But I will wait a little bit with the base until I have decided on how my army will look overall.

Another duardin race is the Fyreslayers, and they were something I had planned to build a lot of, but now I am thinking of selling what I have as I don't think I have the time or the interest to make this in to an army. For now the boxes of unbuilt minis is in a big cardboard box in my basement. Instead of having a Fyreslayer army, I will have a unit of old Slayers in my Duardin army.

From The Grand Aliance of Destruction I have two armies.

Ogor Mawtribes is what was called Ogres when I started with the army. I have not planned for a huge army here, but I do have quite a lot of units still. So far I have only finished one unit of Ogor Gluttons (they too had a completely different name when I stated) and I have a unit of Leadbelchers that are assembled and awaiting priming and painting. I look forward to working more with this army as they really appeal to me.

The second army I have from this alliance is my Gloomspite Gitz. The idea for this army was to make a fun-to-play Greenskin army without the Orcs as I tried making a Black Orc unit that ended up looking like they all had chronic back-pain. Like all my armies it has taken me many years to not finish, and in the meantime Games Workshop came out with rules for just such an army that I wanted to play, called the Gloomspite Gitz.
This army do have some finished units, but still most of the units needed are in boxes. I have lots of Night Goblins that are assembled but not primed, but I also have several of the newer units that are primed and just waiting to be painted. The army will consist of lots of Goblins (and most of them Night Goblins) at least one Giant (Aleguzzer Gargant as they call them now) and this one is fully painted and based. I also think I have one more still in his box, but I might make that one to fit with my chaos army but I have to see what happens. Might be cool to do some conversion stuff and use him in this army.
I also have different kinds of Trolls (or Trogoths) that will fight along side the Gloomspite Gitz.
The leader of the army is the old figure Skarsnik with his giant pet squig. In my army he is called Turnip instead, and his squig is named Blabla.

Finally I have what could be used for several armies from The Grand Alliance of Chaos.
Personally I would love to use everything as one big undivided army, but they can also be used as smaller armies worshiping one specific Chaos God.
I have several of the newer stuff for Khorne and Nurgle, and they are made to look like they worship their specific god. But I also have regular Chaos warriors painted up that worship these Gods.
I have a small following of Slaanesh, and they can either fight with followers of other chaos gods or alongside Deamonettes. I even have quite a big fortress for the Chaos forces.

A bit about names

After writing a little about the names of my Imperial Guard officers in my last blogpost, I thought I would take s little time to write about how I name my characters, why I do it and who gets named.

I generally give names to the leaders and characters in my armies. I also name miniatures that stand out in certain ways and sort of demands to be known.
In addition to naming, I like to make a little background on the miniatures to say just the basic things abut them.
A good example of what kind of background I make is the background for Sergeant Bastion. I read a background in one of the old editions (4th or 5th ed I think) of Warhammer 40.000 about Sergeant Luc Bastonne, a Cadian of Noble heritage that takes every loss of his men personal. Inspired by him I made Gunnery Sergeant "Luck" Bastion, a veteran sergeant leading a squad called Bastions Bastards. Sergeant Bastion have been promoted to higher ranks several times, but have refused to accept the promotions as he likes to be on the ground in the field with his men. Once a colonel took it so personal he reported Bastion for insubordination, but the Senior Commisar in the Regiment felt it was for the right reasons and let it pass. Bastion and his Bastards are made from a Cadian squad set, modified with bits from the Forgeworld Cadian Veteran set.

For my Sergeants I just like to use names that sounds good. One will be called Remagen, but I am not sure who he is yet.
For the commissioned officers I use names from the American Civil War. A lot of them were generals in real life, but I have to demote them in my army. I do not care if they fought for the North or South, but I will not use persons I find inappropriate like Quantrill, who was a guerrilla leader fighting for the southern cause. I don't use Lee or Grant either as they are too well known for that special period (they are probably the only two names Norwegians can name along with Abraham Lincoln when asked about the American Civil War). The General in charge of the Walpurgian 3rd Brigade is Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard

For my other armies I have chosen other areas to get names from. My Space Marines chapter, The Gatekeepers, have Roman names for the Chapter Master and Captains. Now that Lieutenants have been introduced, I will use Roman names for them as well. The Apothecaries  and probably the Librarians will be named after Greek philosophers. My chapter Master is called Otho Vitellius.

My Mechanicus army, the Cohort 9-1 Alpha from the Mechanicus fleet ship Gloria Inveneris is Magos Explorator de Orellana. His commander is the commander of the entire Mechanicus fleet, and his name is Arch Magos de Sousa (I will use the Belisarius Cawl figure for this one).
They are named for famous explorers, at least explorers that come up on Wikipedia when I search for Famous ones.

I also give names to my badguys, and my Chaos Space Marine army is called The Knights of Oblivion, and their commander is Arch-Commodore Falstaff. All the named characters in this army will be Shakespeare characters of some sort.

My Orks gets their names from famous people, and they get "orkyfided"   The warboss in charge if the army is Hazza Hoff (as in David Hasselhoff) and he has his pet squig Hoobie. The figure is Grukk Facerippa, a huge Ork.

My Inquisitor army is led by Lord Inquisitor Van Dorn, a name that just came to me and for this army I will just use names I like.

I have not found any names for my Genestealer army yet, but I need to try an find out how a Genestealer would be named. Also my Chaos Daemons are without names, as daemon names should not be spoken.

For Age of Sigmar, I have no names for my Chaos Warrior armies yet, but that will come.
Like in 40K the Daemons will get no names.

My Duardin (or Dwarf) army are led by Thorir Thorgrimsson. The characters in this army will all be Icelandic or old Norwegian sounding names. The choice of Thorir for the King is a tribute to the coach of the Norwegian female handballteam Thorir Hergeirsson who is a great leader and sort of short (not saying he is a dwarf though).

The Fyreslayers are sort of cousins of the Duardin, and I figure they should have old nordic sounding names too. Maybe Icelandig sounding for them too, but at least sort of viking names.

The Kharadron Overloards are also related somehow, but maybe a little more distant. I will see how many Icelandic sounding names I can think up, if I get enough they will get those kind of names too, if not I will see if I can find some other sort of cool idea to use on them.

My Sylvaneth army are named after Latin names for all kinds of trees. So far I have named the ancient Treelord who leads the army, and its name is Quercus and this is Latin for Oak.

My greenskins army in Age of Sigmar will all get sort of querky funny sounding names, and for my leader I use the Skarsnik figure with his big squig. In my army the Leader is called Turnip, and his squig is called Blabla.

I have yet to pick a way to name my Ogres, but hopefully I can find something fitting for this nice army of big miniatures.

Long awaited update...

I'll start with a follow-up from the last blogpost. The test models of my Daemonettes are almost done. I have painted up two of them with the same colors used on different areas, and I need to decide who I like the best. The only thing that is 100% decided is that the skin will be Daemonette Hide, I mean if I don't use that for them then who should it be for... That means my Deamonettes will be a lot darker than what other people have painted, so I must find a good combination for my palette to brighten them up a bit.

I have done some more work on the Dwarfs too, but still not finished anything new. I've started to paint the hair and beards of my Imperial Dwarfs and also done some more work on the bodies of the Longbeards. The master plan is still to have a board with Dwarfs (or Duardin or Dispossessed as they are called in Age of Sigmar) for Armies on Parade 2017, and I still plan to do it mostly as described earlier in this blog.

This Saturday Games Workshop Oslo held a record attempt. They wanted to set a new record for most infantry models on a gaming table. The rules were simple, the models had to be playable for Warhammer 40K (or Horus Heresy/30K) and they had to have at least 3 different colors on them plus a finished base. These are the same rules as Games Workshop have for using models in tournaments held in their stores.
They had the old record with about 1700 figures (set earlier this year), and their goal this time was 3000 (later they updated their goal to 4000).
The new record for most infantry models on a gaming table is... *drumroll* 4422 figures.
The average number of models that people brought was 220. I managed to scrape together 28 models in total, while the one who brought the most had 750 (among them two full companies of Dark Angels).

The good thing about participating in this record attempt was that I had to get some models based, as all my finished models with wash and bases are in cabinets at the summer house in Sweden.
So i grabbed all the 40K infantry models I had that was at least primed and put them in one of my Crusade cases and set off for the painting table at the store.

The first thing I finished was the Ork Mek that I started to paint in the color class at Games Workshop in January. I gave the base a good slab of Martian Ironearth and it was the first time I used the spatula to get it on the base and not a stiff brush. I think it worked out well, so I immediately started with the base of my Imperial Pilot (don't know the official Games Workshop name for this one). When he was done I used the same basing material for 14 Space Marines from my 2nd Company. They were not 100% finished as they needed some details fixed, but they had all their colors on. I also added a Space Marine captain (master of Relics) that I originally painted up for my Armies on Parade board for 2015, but I didn't find a place for him then so he's been standing among my "almost ready" models since that.
And finally for the Space Marines they got joined by a Dark Angels Interrogator-Chaplain that had all his basic colors done but was missing some highlighting.

When this was done, there were a little time left, so I based my Imperial Guard squad with two females in it. This time I used Astrogranite as basing material. My idea is that the Guard will be more in to the urban fighting, so this woud look better for them. Some of my Guard units will be based on the sculpted Sector Imperialis bases, and I think the grey Astrogranite goes best with this.
This unit is not done by far, but they had 4 colours on them (black primer, Mechanicus Standard Grey, Administratum Grey and Bugmans Glow) and I managed to add Castellan Green to the canteen covers, grenades and a few other parts.

With all models that could be present for the record attempt placed in their appropriate places on the table, I still wanted to paint more. So, I started to work on my Ork Boyz. After using Naggaroth Night on my Mek I got a liking for that color, so I gave a handful of Boyz dark purple clothing and helmets. Among them were two heavy weapon Boyz armed with heavy stubbers.

I also sat for a few hours at home on Sunday working more on the Boyz, so the result now is that I have several Boyz just missing the final wash and their bases before they are ready to join the comming Waaagh. One carrying a mine (not sure if he really is part of the Boyz or some sort of speciaist) one with shoota and choppa, two with heavy stubbers and one with grenades. I also have one with a chainblade that is washed and just waiting for a base. There are several Boyz in my Crusade case just waiting for some attention, and when I get back home from a short spring holliday I will try and do both Dwarfs and Boyz.

General update

Since the last post I have had a period where I haven't done much building and painting, but now I am at it again.
Since last time I have done a little work on the two Dwarf units that I have started on. My first unit of Longbeards have their armor painted now, and after their boots are painted, I will go on to paint heads and arms before glueing it on. This is a unit of ten figures, but I will paint up my other Longbeards in the same way, and will probably end with two units of fifteen with full command, or if I want smaller units, three units of ten where only two have full command. These warriors are quite different from previous Dwarf minis, so it will not be natural to mix them with older versions.

I'm also almost done painting the torsos of my oldest set of Dwarf warriors, the unit I have decided to call my Imperial Dwarfs as they have gone to live in the city amongst the humans, but come back to the keep to fight with their brothers in the upcomming battle that they are all mustering for. I will start shortly to prime and paint their arms and heads.

I have also come quite far in painting a unit of regular Warriros, and have started to paint and assemble my first Gyrocopter. The Gyrocopter will take some time still, as I have to prime all small parts manually since I neeed to paint the insiode of the Gyrocopter during assembly.

Since my last update, I have gotten hold of some Genestealers for Warhammer 40.000 and so far I have assembled a Goliath Rockgrinder (a truck with a huge shield with a huge shield with rotating saws that grinds up rocks), a box called Broodcoven (sort of the 3 leaders of the clan with two small accolytes), and I am in the process of thinking out what colors to use on their skin to make them look almost human while still having a hint of alien on them (so far I am leaning towards Cadian Fleshtone with a purplish wash).

The Rockgrinder will be painted in light gray (Celestra Gray) with an orange stripe down the front. The orange will be the same as in the uniforms of the troops to match it together.

The regular Genestealers will have orange uniform jackets (Jokaero Orange) with dark grey (Mechanicus Standard Grey) pants, black boots and light grey (Celestra Grey) armor. This will be the same for both miners and soldiers, but with the changes needed to make it work. The Genestealers in other clothing will probably get some sort of red or yellow clothing to fit in but still look different enough that they stand out on the battlefield.

I have also started on a few test models from my Daemonettes of Slaanesh and so far it seems they will be a little darker and a lot more purple than the ones in the regular art from Games Workshop. I mean when they have a paint called Deamonette Hide, isn't that the natural color to use on their hide? I'll drop by Games Workshop later today and see if they can help me with a color to use on the hair.

Pictures of the things mentioned in this post will be shown as soon as I have anything worth showing.

Bad weather today...

The rain pours down and the wind comes from all sides at once, so there will be no priming or spraypainting Leadbelcher today. At least not for a long while.
Instead I think I will sit an enjoy reading "The Last Wall" - the fourth book in "The Beast Arises" series, and later on do some painting.
I will try to get a good production line running on my Chaos Warriors as my main focus now is to get a Chaos army painted up, but I must not forget that I want to field a Dwarf army for "Armies on parade" this fall. So I have a lot of Dwarfs that need to be built and painted, and a lot of Dwarf projects in various stages of assembly that need to be finished.
I also plan to do some painting of my Slaanesh Deamonettes, as this practically can be said to be working on my Chaos army as they will be used along with the Chaos army. I am quite interested in seeing how my new purple paint will look alongside the black clothing and pale skin.

My wife and I bought us an old house in Sweden to use as a cottage, and in order to afford the loan on that house, we need to rent out the basement apartment at our original house. This means that I need to pack up all my Warhammer and Lego in boxes again, and move it to the house in Sweden. So I will probably do a bit of packing today as well.
I have found that if I pack my armies in boxes in a very organized way, then it will be possible to work like I do now with one army for a given time period. I can just collect the box (or boxes in some cases) marked with that army and bring it home from the house in Sweden, and have it alongside my workplace at home and throw the box when the minis are built.
The good thing about the house in Sweden is that in the basement there is a room where I can sit and work with things like styrofoam so I will not have to depend on good weather to work on my Badyear Blimp. And there is plenty of room, so I will get the space i need to have Warhammer armies displayed in cabinets like I do in the basement now.

Plage Drones complete - Pictures

I'm calling the Plague Drones done now.
I decided to glue the riders on to the drones to make sure the correct rider gets on the right drone each time. It makes transportation a little harder, but it is hard anyway.
The light is not too good, but this is an attempt in the morning light today. Here is the unit together for the first time, ready to bring the blessings of Father Nugle to the world...

This is the musician. He uses a bone club with a metal scull attached to it to bang on the bronze bell. For some reason the followers of Nurgle likes bells. The musician in the Blight King box also carries a large bell around with him.

The unit champion is the most gory character, with his guts hanging out and flapping about. He had a scull hanging from his sword, but it broke off. And quite frankly I think it looks better without it.
I added a closeup of his open stomach. To get the gory effect I used Carroburg Crimson shade both on the guts and on the open belly, and I think this worked out very "nice".

Then we have the standard bearer. I was planning on painting the banner in the same color as the wings of the Plague Drones, but then I noticed that it looked very much like being metal. So I painted it in bronze instead, and I think it came out quite well.

This last picture is posted because I thought the light was nice here and it shows the base and the wings quite well. The light green on the bases are splotches of Nurgle's Rot.
The wings were washed with Agrax Eathshade, and I gave the shield a wash as well. That worked a lot better than the Biel-Tan green I used first. I also ended up using Agrax Earthshade on the horns and claws, and that also worked a lot better than the other choices I tried.

Like the Dwarf Ironbreakers I will try and get better pictures when the light is better.

small update

The leader of my Nurgle faction is now completely built. Bloab Rotspawned is standing ready to be primed and painted. I plan to give him the same treatment as my Plague Drones, so it gets a look that is easy to see is part of the same army.
I wan't to do something special with the base, since there is a lot of room on it, so I have not glued the monster to the base yet. That can be done at a later time in the project.

I have done more painting on the first Plague Drone, and have done the wings and the base. The base will still get a layer of Biel-Tan Green shade and then I will put some Nurgles Rot on there, and also on the model itself. The base was painted with Lustrian Undergrowth, a dark green technical paint, and it completely covers the black and Zandri Dust up. When I get the Nurgle's rot on there I think it will look very nice. The wings are painted Celesta Grey, and that also seems to cover nicely after just one thin layer, but then it is a base paint so it usually covers nicely.
The one thing remaining on the drone itself is to paint the claws with my usual combo of Steel Legion Drab and Ushabti Bone, and then I need to do some painting on the rider.

The last thing I have done today is to base my Dwarf Ironbreakers. I used the Astrogranite texture paint for this. It was a bit darker than I had expected, but it appears to be almost identical in colour to the Mechanicus Standard Grey or at least so similar that they will be good together. I will try that out tomorrow afternoon, when I will paint the edges of the bases. If it works out, I think I might have a "trademark" for my minis. With my Marines that I used for the Armies on Parade last year I painted the edges of my bases the same color as the top to look good on the board, and I think I will do that for the entire army there.
My dwarfs will have grey bases as described above, and my Ogres will get white edges as they are snow bases.

For my other armies I will see what color I go with as I see what I use on top of the bases.

Nurgle update

I was at Games Workshop in Oslo yesterday and worked on my minis for a few hours. I had planned to prime and spray three Plague Drones, but because of the raw air outside I only got to spray one. All tree were primed, but after spraying the first with Zandri Dust I concluded along with one of the staff members that the weather was not optimal for spray painting. It was both cold and raw air, so the paint did not cover the model as it was supposed to. Instead of flowing smoothly it sort of clumped together a bit. I managed to spray the remaining two at home later in the evening, but they needed time to try before I could work on them.
The one drone I spray-painted at GW ended up looking quite ok, but I see that the paint layer is thicker than with other things I have sprayed.

The riders that will sit on the top of the Plage Drones were hand painted Zandri Dust with a brush after I had primed them with black spray.

The riders and the painted drone were then washed with quite a heavy coat of Biel-Tan green wash, and I think the result were quite good. It certainly gives the models a Nurgly feel, but at least on the riders there are details that will need other colors such as open wounds and intestines.

The plan forward is to paint the parts on the drones that looks like an armored shell with the same green as I use for the skin of my Orks (Castellan Green), and then I think the claws and horns will need to be painted with Ushabti Bone to make it look like the sculls, horns and bones I usually paint.

I'm still trying to figure what color I want to have on the wings, as I am thinking that they are about the same material as wings on bumblebees and wasps, but because the Plague Drones are so much bigger it might be a more solid material. At the moment I am leaning towards a light grey for them, maybe Celestra Grey.

The Nurgle faction of my regular chaos warriors are coming along nicely. I have assembled twelve of the twenty-four models so far, and will take the last twelve in a few days time. Then comes the time-consuming work of painting everything up. I am thinking of seeing how they will look with silver helmets washed with the right color according to their belief. The Slaanesh ones are all silver with purple wash and that came out very nice, so I am debating with myself if I might paint the helmets of my Nurgle and Khorne warriors silver and wash it green and red accordingly. This might be a thing to differentiate them from the black chaos warriors that don't have any specific mark, claiming that they either paint their helmets silver or remove the black paint as part of their ritual when they start to worship a specific Chaos God. If it looks nice, this would certainly give my warriors a distinct look, and that is something I like on my miniatures.

Being inspired after seeing that the Plague Drone with green wash looked good, I started to work on my Maggoth Lord. Long ago I decided that I would like to assemble mine as Bloab Rotspawned, and now he is mostly done. I have a few details left to fix on his saddle, and then I need to fix that to the beast. On this model I will try and do the base before I add the monster to it, so I will not glue it on to the base at the moment. It stands very well without being fixed to the base, so it will be no problem doing it that way.

I have also taken two packs of Putrid Blightkings up to my worktable and I plan to give them the same treatment as the Plague Drones to make them look sickly green and Nurgly. With these packs I can make ten warriors, and they will be the elite of the Nugle warriors.

Then I will assemble and paint some Khorne warriors from the Bloodbound boxes along with my Khorne Chaos Warriors, in order to get the same feel on the entire range. I am not sure if these warriors also will get the silver helmets or if they will have them in the same red paint as their armor. but I will have to see what I do and what it will look like.

What is planned for the future - all army update - Warhammer 40.000

This blogpost follows up the one with the almost identical name, but this time focusing on my Warhammer 40K armies.

As with the Age of Sigmar update I'll start with the chaos. Chaos daemons have been covered in the Age of Sigmar update, so I will leave them out of this.

I have a small Chaos Space Marine army planned. It will consist of Chaos Space Marines and Cultists. It's not a huge number of models, but the Chaos Marines have quite detailed power armor, so it takes some time to paint them. I plan to keep it quite simple, but still make them look nice.
The first thing to be finished here will be the miniatures that I have painted already (ten Chaos Terminators and a Terminator Lord). They are just missing their bases, and I will do them the same way as with the Space Marines I fielded in Armies on Parade 2015. I will have to do some variations on the bases to break up the monotony in the future, but that is the same with the existing Space Marines that I have. I will also try to finish Cypher - The Fallen Angel, as I have assembled him but not primed or painted him yet. The idea with Cypher is that the Chaos Marines can be used as fallen Dark Angels if I like to.

This will not be a huge army, but it will be stand-alone. It might be an army that I get some trouble winning with as I don't have vehicles, but I know that if I start to buy that then this army will grow rapidly in to a new army the size of my regular Marines, and I don't want that. I want to have a small band of warriors on a mission or stranded on the planet, and then they have gotten some cultist followers who originally were inhabitants of the planet where they are. I will see where the fluff goes, but I like the idea of a small, hardened warband.

Space Marines is perhaps the biggest army I have and also plan to have. I have lots of unassembled units and many assembled in need of painting. I am always working on the fluff for my Marines, but basically I have my own chapter (The Gatekeepers), and I build it with Dark Angels and regular marines (Ultramarines) as an Ultramarine successor chapter. My original dream was to have minis for the entire chapter (1000+ troops), but I have modified that a bit. Still it will be a big army when I have built and painted everything that I have, and I might buy some more some time in the future (but not until I have built a lot of what I have already). I have plans for how I want the units to look, so it is just a matter of sitting down and working to get them done.
I also have two boxes of the "Betrayal at Calth" board game, and one of them will be painted as Chaos Marines and the other as my Gatekeepers.
In one of the campaign boxes there are about twenty Space Wolves but I have not decided if I want to build them or if I should try and sell them. At the moment I am leaning towards the latter as I don't think I will ever field them. They don't go too good with Dark Angels, and I plan to be able to use the Dark Angel miniatures as a Dark Angels successor chapter in some games as they have some special rules that I might like to use in some games. But for the most part all Space Marines will be Gatekeepers and played with Ultramarines rules.

There is a small contingency of Grey Knights on the shelves, and I have decided to paint them dark blue to blend in with my Imperial Guard special forces (Militarum Tempestus) and my Space Marines. When it comes to fluff this is done because they do not want to make their presence known among the population on the planet. They are very secret after all... A unit of five is already painted and just awaiting wash and basework.
They will mostly be played as a retinue for my Inquisitors. They have one Landrider Redeemer that is assembled and painted white with a lot of chipping and dirt, but for the reminder of vehicles I plan to just use regular Space Marine vehicles. I originally had a plan to give them their own white vehicles but I think the price is too high considering how rarely they will be fielded as a separate force.
This force will also include a handful of Sisters of Battle (Adeptus Sororitas) that I have picked up from Ebay way back in time. I just plan to paint them up and have them in the display case to break up the blue of the Space Marines. Still, I have the rules for them, so they might also join some Inquisitor on occasion, or see some action in a game of Apocalypse.
I have a few Inquisitorial Retinues as well, and they will serve alongside the different Inquisitors as I find fit depending on the missions.

A loyal and trusted ally to the Space Marines are the Astra Militarum, or the Imperial Guard as they used to be named.
I have almost as many units here as I have of the Space Marines, and among them are the super heavy tanks (three of them) and I do love tanks. My big goal is to build and finish enough tanks to field one super heavy tank company and one regular tank company. With the new sprays that have been released (that I already have) painting them is quite easy. All it takes is priming, spraying, painting tracks and details and washing the entire tanks. It should be possible to get a lot done in a short time, especially on the Leman Russ tanks, as they are very easy to build.
The Imperial Guard is split in to three different series, with the Militarum Tempestus as the one that sticks out the most. They are the elite soldiers, and have their own figures and vehicles. I am not sure how to paint their vehicles, but I have painted up a unit of troops so I know what color to use on them. The vehicles will probably be quite similar to the regular guard units, as this binds the armies together. The Imperial Guard is split in Cadians and Catachans and I have both. They have a lot in common when it comes to colors, but some small variations too. I have a general idea as how I want all my units to look, and a unit is added to the finished army from time to time. They will have the same bases as my Space Marines with a few modifications here and there, and I think I have several painted units that just needs their bases done.

Mechanicus is also a small army in my collection, and they also serve as allies for other armies, especially the Space Marines. I am not sure exactly how to paint these up, but I have a general idea. The idea here is that they are a small force on the same planet as the other armies, with a mission to solve. I look forward to building and painting their Dune Crawlers as they are some of the coolest tanks released lately.

Apart form the Chaos Space Marines there are mostly good guys in my Warhammer 40K armies. The exception is the final army in this blogpost, the Orks.
I originally got in to Orks because I wanted to convert stuff. That is still my plan, and I have several projects on my shelves that's just waiting for me to find the time to start that. Among the plans here is making the old, small Trukks in to mobile weapon platforms and fielding them with warbuggies rules. Then I will field the Trukks as troop transports and trucks.
The Orks are a little fiddly to paint as there are a lot of details, but they are also very cool. I have several ongoing projects at all times, and I plan to finish some of them soon. Some are just missing their bases, while others just miss small details before they can be completed. There are also a lot of units still in their boxes waiting for assembly. This army is something I do in between everything else, and I do love working with them, so I expect some units to be done in the near future.
I also hope to be able to start with my Stompas in the not so distant future, and when I do I will not build them in between other projects but see them through.

What is planned for the future - all army update - Age of Sigmar

It's been a long time since I've done a blogpost with an update for all armies, so I thought I would do it now. This post is sort of a foot in the ground, and a way for me to try to think and speculate a bit about the future when it comes to how I will minimize the amount of kits sitting in their boxes on my shelves. This post is for the Age of Sigmar/Fantasy part of the minis, and I will do another similar one for 40K.

First up is the Chaos and Chaos Daemons. I see these two armies as one, as I will only use the Daemons as allies to my Chaos forces. I can't see that I will buy a lot of them to make an entire army. I will keep it small and simple.
The Plague Drones are assembled as far as I can do, only thing I have to figure out is what to do with the riders. Do I glue them on, or do I accept that they don't fit snuggly on to the drones? They will be quite impossible to transport, but as they are quite difficult anyway, I guess it won't matter much...

The Deamons will work both with Age of Sigmar and 40K, so I will see how I do the bases. I'll probably make them match with the Age of Sigmar Chaos bases, as I suspect they will be used more there than in 40K.

The Chaos forces are well in production as written in several posts these last few days. My first plan is to assemble all the Chaos Warriors I have in my collection, then I will paint everything up, also the models already assembled. I would like to do this as sort of an assembly line if I find a good way to do it, so that I add the colors for all minis then move to the next color. A lot of things will be identical to give the entire army a feel of unity even though there will be four factions/warbands.
All shields will be black and gold, all weapons will be Leadbelcher. All leather will be brown, all Warriors will have golden armorplates on their knees, and so on.
After the Warriors are done, I will start with all the Nurgle units as there are some nice units there that I would love to build.

The second army I plan to work on are the Dwarfs. I plan to use them for my Armies on Parade 2016 entry in the fall, so I need to give them a lot of attention and build some nice models. I have always had very big plans for the dwarfs as I really love dwarfs in general when it comes to fantasy (they are my favorite characters in the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings) and by using them for the AoP-entry I must force myself to finish them to a high standard. Much of the Dwarfs will be built straight out of the box, but some units like the Rangers, will get some modifications.
Among the things I love to do is to make the Badyear Blimp, and some observation balloons. I know how I want to make the blimp itself and the balloons, but what remains now is to figure out what material I want to build the baskets and control room with.
I have plans to make a separate Ranger squad for the army, as well as all the regular troops that usually frequent a dwarf army.
I have a lot of nice metal minis for the dwarf range, and I think I will do some repainting on those as well as painting up my own units from the boxes. A lot of the metal Dwarfs that I got from the guy who was quitting the hobby are missing their shields, so I will see if I can find a way to rectify that as they are cast in a way that makes it look really weird if I use them without. I have a few possible solutions here. One is using the shields from the plastic units that will not have them (like Thunderers and Quarrelers) and another is using buttons that my wife have bought dirt cheap from China if I find some that fits the size. I had originally planned not to repaint these models, but I see now that it should be done in order to get a feeling of unity for the entire army. However I will, at least on some of the units, try my best to paint it quite similar to what they are now, as I like many of the colors that have been used before.
The first thing I will do though, is wash the Ironbreakers I have assembled a long time ago and finish painting, washing and basing  the grudge ponies and carts.

As part of my overall Dwarf army, I plan to include the Fyreslayers faction.
The Fyreslayers are a new faction to Age of Sigmar, and can be played separately, just like the Sylvaneth who was split out from the Wood Elf facton. But to me the Fyreslayers are Dwarf Slayers, and I intend to use them as such.
They are mercenaries and work for good amounts of gold and ur-gold, so I will use them as part of a large Dwarf army, but also at times as mercenaries for my Ogres.
The novel "Fyreslayers" seems to hint about Fyreslayers working for chaos as well, and in some cases I might try this, but I have so many chaos models that that army stands quite well on its own so my Fyreslayers Lodge will fight mostly for Dwarfs and Ogres.
I will experiment a bit on the bases to make some nice ones that hints a bit of magma while still being true to the style of the other Dwarf bases.

Ogres is the army that I really feel bad for at the moment. I had such big plans for them, but they have been neglected time after time. However, I manged to finally finish the first unit this week so now I feel certain that they will get a boost some time down the road. I have no special plans as to the order I want to build the units, but I know I will build Bragg the Gutsman as one of the first models, and also that the next unit that will be finished will be the unit of Leadbelchers that stands partly assembled on my shelves as I like to finish what I have started before doing new stuff. I learned a bit about colors and washes while working on the Ogre unit I recently finished, and I plan to bring those experiences with me for the reminder of the Ogre army.

Greenskins is also an army that I feel a little sorry for. I was on a roll with them a long time ago, but all of a sudden everything just stopped dead in its tracks. I have a huge amount of assembled Night Goblins, and they really are easy to paint if I just pull myself up by the neck and sit down with it. The Goblins will have about six colors and two washes, and I will try my best to work with the ones already painted and based to make the rest look as similar as possible. But where I see that things should be done different I will try and do that, and see where it leads me. I have some very nice models to assemble and paint in this range, among others an Arachnarok spider and some Forgeworld Night Goblin leaders. I have a huge lot of Spider Riders where I can use bright colors to break up the monotony of black and green, and I also have a box with a giant that I haven't built yet.
The Giant that is already done will get the same skin wash my ogres got to give him better looking skin as the rest of the giant is washed quite nice already.

Finally we have the Sylvaneth. I got some from the same guy that gave me the dwarfs and then they became their own faction when Age of Sigmar came out and I bought some new boxes. I will not have a huge army of trees, but a sizeable unit still. The idea is that I can use them as a stand-alone army, or as allies to others if I would like that. I have the paint scheme that I want to use, so I will paint them up a little at the time. The main challenge I see with this army, is painting the Dryads in a way that makes them individual even though they are all almost identical. I tried to do that on some Dryads already, but I am not too happy with the result, so I will go back and do them a third time (my second but they were already painted when I got them).

Progress on the Chaos forces

I managed to do some work on my chaos forces today.
I have found the best way to assemble them is to glue the torsos to the base, and add the arms that stand out from the body. Then I can add heads and shield-arms (for those who will have them) after the torsos are painted.

I now have twenty-eight Warriors of Chaos with two hand-weapons each glued to round bases.
These are the Khorne warriors and they are mounted on round bases as they will interact with the Bloodbound who only come with these bases for their entire range.

Twelve more warriors are glued together, but they just have their sword-arm attached. The other arm will hold the shield, and that will get in the way of painting. These warriors will complete the Slaanesh unit I posted pictures of recently.

There are still thirty-six warriors left to glue together and they will be twelve regular chaos warriors and twenty-four Nurgle warriors. The Nurgle ones will have full command, while the other unit will add to an existing one and just be rank and file troops. These will all have shields, so I will just glue the weapon arm on, like on the Slaanesh ones.

I have finished assembly of the last ten daemonettes, so as soon as I get the chance, I will give all twenty a good basecoat and start painting.

One thing I have forgotten to write earlier is that the Nurgle forces also have a character that is ready for priming. The Harbinger of Decay is built, but I have not glued him to the base yet. I tried to, but the thin legs of his resin steed would not stick to the base. I had a chat with the Games Workshop staff and
got a few tips on how to solve this. So now I will make sort of a scenic base for him (that was the plan anyway) and start with a layer of greenstuff and make sure that I can place the feet of the steed so that it sinks in to the greenstuff a little bit. That will make it stick.
Then I guess I will use the same basing techniques on that base as on the other chaos bases.

Future plans for the Chaos army

I have a lot of chaos warriors on my workbench, and I plan to do a solid production-line to finish a lot of units at the same time.

Earlier tonight I posted pics of my first twelve man unit of Slaanesh warriors, and I plan to add twelve more warriors to that unit.

I have decided that my chaos army will have elements of warriors not dedicated to any special chaos god, and they will be black like the more traditional chaos warriors. They will consist of warriors, chosen, knights and marauders (both on hoseback and on foot). I will probably use my chaos hounds with these units as well. I will use the Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount as a leader for this warband.

I will then have units made to serve three of the four chaos gods. My Slaanesh are already on the way with the first unit painted. They still need their bases done, but I will wait a bit until I have a good idea that I can use for the entire army. These warriors will be joined by knights that will be painted up the same way.
I have assembled a unit of ten Daemonettes with full command, and I am currently assembling ten more to make this a unit of twenty. They will have pale skin and heads, and I will use black and purple on their skimpy clothing and purple wash in their hair and probably on the tails and scaled legs..

Khorne will have his followers as well. Two boxes of chaos warriors will make up a unit of twenty-eight (the newer boxes comes with sixteen warriors instead of twelve) warriors with full command.
This warband will also have forces from all the boxes of Bloodbound units that has come with the new Age of Sigmar release, and they will have Mighty Skullcrushers on Juggernauts as their cavalry.
I haven't decided completely on how I will paint these, but I am leaning towards painting them like I do with the black ones, but using red where I have used black before. I have not yet decided who will be the leader of this warband, but I am leaning towards the lord from the Age og Sigmar starter set as he really looks the part.

My Nurgle warband will consist of all the nurge models that I currently have, and two old boxes of warriors. The warriors will be painted up in a combination of the Khorne and Slaanesh models with armourplates of green, but also with some light and metal areas that will be drybrushed with green wash.
For the units showing skin, I plan to paint that Zandri dust and wash it with green wash. I've seen Mathias at GW in Oslo do this with an Ork and it is amazing how you can get the washes to give color variations. So by doing this I might be able to give the models the nurgly look without having too many different greens.
This part of the army will work together with the other half of my deamon army, my nurglings and plague drones.
The Nurgle warband will be lead by Bloab Rotspawned.

The big plan is to base spray and paint the deamons and deamonettes together as one batch, and as much of the chaos warriors as possible as one batch. I plan to assemble all the warriors I have in a way that makes painting as easy as possible. That means gluing them to their bases, gluing the torsos together and gluing on the arms that have weapons in them. Heads and shield-arms will be added later.

Female guards, deamonettes and more

My first three Plage Drones are now completely built and waiting for warmer weather so I can prime them before painting. Before I start with the paintjob I will have a look at pictures of other peoples work to get some impressions of how I can paint them up. The minis need to look nicely painted but nurgly at the same time and that is a challenge I have not faced before. I have also found the second box of drones and will put that together in the near future so when I start to prime and paint there will be six drones to do as a batch job.

I have also assembled a unit of ten Deamonettes of Slaanesh with full command. I was not very happy with the musician, because the instument didn't stay in the air as I had planned. But that's what you get when you're not watchng the minis dry. I think it was quite fiddly to get the arms to sit right on the tiny sholuders, but apart from that it was a nice and fun little box to assemble. And I am quite sure that the unit will be expanded in the future. I have a few ideas about painting these, and I will go for purple and black clothes with gold details.

I have just made a conversion I've been wanting to do almost since I started with Imperial Guard, and that is to make female troopers. First time I thought about it was after seeing Starship Troopers. I've read the old fluff that says that only very few women join the Guard, but I feel some need to be represented. And with the spares from the Deamonettes box right in front of me I had the perfect start.
While assembling the Deamonettes I had this plan in my head, so I saved two heads that didn't look too deamony (is that even a word?) and today my first two female troopers were born. One of them is quite inspired by one of the characters in Tanya Huff's Confederation series. A non human with high purple hair (don't remember the name).
I might call her Sergeant Kerr in recognition of the series, as she will get a "normal" hair colour in my army.
The other female trooper have a pony tail of the hair she has left, and she is a regular trooper. I sort of figue most enlisted men to have very short hair, so in that way the deamonette heads with hair only in the middle of the head will fit nicely. You can't see that the enisted men have mohawk hair too, as they have kept their helemets on...
I had originally thought of using elf heads earlier, but on those heads the pointy ears were too visible.

I have also made snow bases for the entire six man unit of Ogres, and I will use some time later today or tomorrow to drybtush the technical paint with white to make it look even more like snow. On other bases, like cavalry and monsters I will try and add some grass turfs to break up the monotony of the white, but I don't think I will do that on these bases.

I also assembled Cypher - The Fallen Angel yesterday for my Chaos Space Marines warband. He is a metal mini but still quite nice with some nice details. This will give me a choice to field my Chaos Marines as fallen Dark Angels if I like, or if I choose to have my own chapter Cypher can have joined them for a duration as he is known to do such things according to the official fluff. This also says he attract fallen Dark Angels, so we'll see what I end up with in the future. But since all my Chaos Space Marines will be Dark Angls Green, then they might be fallen angels...

Merry Christmas to all...

I didn't get any Warhammer related stuff for Christmas, but I had not expected to get any either. I have so many kits on the shelves already, waiting for some tender love, glue and paint.
I did however participate in a Secret Santa event at Games Workshop, so yesterday I was in the store and got a present from another participant.
Everyone that wanted to participate bought a set from any of the modelranges. The price should be 250NOK or more. For about 250-280 NOK you get boxes with troops and units for most of the armies, so that is a good price. Then the staff members wrap the presents, and yesterday we were allowed to choose one present each.
I got a box of Plage Drones in my present. They are from the Chaos Deamons range, and can be used with the same bases both for Age of Sigmar and Warhammer 40.000. In the earlier days you had to mount the flying stems on square bases for Fantasy, but now I can just use the flyer bases on them for both systems. The box came with enough stems to make both kind of bases though, so it was not much job to use them for both system earlier either.
Now I have three flying stems that I can use with my future plans for my Dwarf airforce. I have been inspired to make a few balloons to use as observation platforms as well as the Badyear Blimp.

I built the three Plage Drones as a command unit, and then I will build three more as regular Plage Drones to make up a unit of six. If I happen to come across a single model in the future, I will add it to the unit as seven is a more Nurgly number, but I'm not buying a box just to build one of three. If they work great on the battlefile though, I might add more units, and then one box can provide the seventh drone for three separate units. Only the future knows what will come...

A little time ago I bought the Games Workshop backpack (known as the Munitoruim Battlepack Case Harness), and this can be used as a regular backpack, or you can open it to hold either one crusade case, two battle cases or three skirmish cases in a harness behind the rooms of the pack itself. I bought it as a bundle, and saved some money getting the Crusade case at the same time. This can carry a lot of models, so I felt it was stupid to just carry three ork Killa Kans and a Cannon. So I went down in my hobbyroom and found a lot of other projects that needed some love and care and brought them along as well. Now I have them in the case, so I plan to finish them all (not a lot of work left for many of the units) and get them ready for the display shelves and for future battles.

So the plan for the next few days is:

- Wash the unit of six Ogres that has been standing ready for the final touch for a long time. I see that I spilled some paint on a couple of pants, so I will need to repaint those. But apart from that it is a matter of washing the models. I have put this out because I've been a little worried about how the skin will turn out, but I think I am ready to give it a shot now. I also got some wash advice from the GW staff yesterday...

- Wash the unit of Slaanesh Chaos Warriors (The Shining ones). This is fairly easy as they all just need a thin coat of Nuln oil to make them look a little bit dirty, but not too much. I might also use a little drybrushing on the armourplates to make them shiny again. After all, the unit is called The Shining...
Then some time in the future I will paint up Sigvald to lead them. And right now I am also putting together a unit of ten Daemonettes of Slaanesh to fight alongside them on the battlefield...

- Wash and drybrush a unit of Dwarf Ironbreakers. They need the same care as the Chaos warriors above.

Then I have a cannon with crew that needs washing, and I need to finish painting (and then wash) my Grudge ponies. I wanted to put them on bases, and with the help of Mats at Games Workshop we decided that the square bases that came with the Plage Drones are perfect for this task. Since I have two boxes of Drones I have enough bases for all the ponies, so I will try and make these bases look like a trail of some sort, and add some turf and some technical paint to them as I do get a little room on each side of the ponies to work with. If this works out nice, I will use some of them on my Armies On Parade board next year...

-Finish paining my Killa Kans, the Kustom Mega-kannon with crew and a lot of Boyz for my 40K Ork army. I had not primed the Killa kans, so I gave them all a good dash of red paint to use as a base. The plan was to paint them up in the store yesterday to use them in a game at noon, but I ended up building Plage Drones instead.
The Killa Kans will be red with yellow details, just like my Battlewagon, and the Kannon will be yellow like my Trukk with both red and black details. I will paint the crew so that they can be used on other wehicles as well. There are five crew to each cannon, and I have four of them, so I thought I migh use some of the crew for other projects, as all grot helpers can be switched betwewn sets, and it will give a bit more life to the army to have a little variation. Besides, all of the different cannons won't need five crew to operate. And I might need one or two crewmembers on my Stompas.

Pictures of the finished projects will be shared here as units are done.
