Troggoths and scenery (and some Imperial Agents)

I have been working some more on my Troggoths today, and as soon as the weather is nice when I have time I will prime the Troggoth King.

Last weekend I was at the Games Workshop store in Oslo and picked up some paint and a few mail orders, among them a box of Old Word Dwarf miners the Kasrkin Stormprooper model that is exclusive for Warhammer+ members, a pair of hills for The Old World and the mansion also for The Old World.
Also I got two inquisitorial agents, one priest and one navigator.
The Priest, Navigator and Kasrkin Stormtrooper are all built now and will be primed alongside the Troggoth King, the Malcador tank and the two hills (as they did not require any assembly).

I love the Old World models and have started to build the mansion. I have assembled most of the house/chapel, but now I need to figure out how I can solve a few issues. The building has a hole in the roof, and I don't like that. So I will try to see if the little annex you can add to the roof can be put so that it covers that hole instead of being on the other side of the roof where it is supposed to be. If that works I can put the pipe on that side (it is optional to use that, the annex or a hatch).

works in progress

This week I have finished my Mangler Squigs, and I have readied the parts to make the remaining fourteen Dwarfs of the Rat-pack unit with crossbows and with axes on their backs. So now I can sit down and clean the parts and glue them together. I have sorted the parts in to different boxes, so if I choose one part from each box I get legs and back, head and chest, arms with the frame of the crossbow, the bow string and a bolt, and finally the axe they can hav on their backs. Because of the axe on the back, I made sure that none of the Dwarfs have capes in this unit. I am also, because of their description of being specialists in catacomb and sewer fighting, rethinking having a banner and instead finding something cool that they can have on a pole instead of the banner that will get unspeakably dirty in no time.

For my Imperial Guard army I have built a store anniversary fgure called Sergeant "Ripper" Jackson, a tough female Catachan Sergeant with a metal leg. She will be one of my veteran infantry sergeants for the Walpurgian 3rd. It is a great mini and I look forward to painting her up. I hope i can prime her tomorrow.

I have also built a unit of four Ogor Leadbelchers with their big cannons. I was originally hoping I could have some fun with the cannons, mixing them up with the cannons for the Steam Tank, but it turns out that would be really hard because of the way they are assembled So I will have to use the cannons for the sets they came with.

Speaking about the Steam Tank... I have started to paint it up, and I plan to paint the armorplates and then add the details that goes outside them and paint that as it is glued on. I have no idea if this is the best way to do it, but I have already found that there are so many fiddly bits to paint that I think it is worth trying.
I am quite happy with the wooden parts, and I need to see how the armorplates turn out. But I have planned to drybrush them with Necron Compound dry paint anyway so I think they will turn out well in the end.

Since I didn't use the commander for the tank, I assembled him on a base, and I plan to use him for some position or other in the army. He has a special pistol and a looking glass, so I am thinking either crew for one of the guns, or as some sort of officer. Maybe he is an engineer or something, I'll see what I can come up with.

the future of the Dwarf army

I have gone through my dwarfs and divided everything up into units. I have the two units that I have talked about before, armed with axes and shields and two-handed axes, and from the same boxes I will make 3 more units of 20, armed with long-guns, crossbows and warhammers and shields. They will all have the standard command unit with champion, musician and standard bearer and 17 regular warriors.

The next unit I'll make will have 14 figures on the sprues as I've already built 6 of tehm from the extra parts I found in the spruest, making it a total of 20. This will be a special unit armed with pistols and long-guns and they will be named The Rat-pack and will be specialists in fighting in sewers and catacombs againt the rats of the Skaven.

Some of the old miniatures that was in a drawer in my desk along with one sprue from the boxes used above will make up a unit with shields and axes, Here there will be different poses, but they all have the same type of armor.

I had a lot of old dwarfs armed with long-guns, but they had 3 different poses and none of them were enough to field as a single unit as the Cities of Sigmar rules says the minimum unit size is 10 minis. So I added them in to one big unit of 25. It will look a little weird, but I think it will come out good in the end if I place them a little strategic in the unit.

Another big unit will be the Hammerers. They are also 25 strong and they are also old metal minis. They will be the bodyguard of the Low King and surround him when he goes on the battlefield. Some of these minis are painted up quite nicely, but to make them my own I still need to repaint them. I will take inspiration from the old paintjob though. The Low King himself will be represented by the miniature of Thorgrim Grudgebearer sitting on his big throne with the Book of Grudges in front of him. The throne is carried by four dwarfs. This is a resin kit still on the sprues, so it will not be one of the first I build, but I will do it in due time.

I also have two units of Miners to go in the army. They are a mix of plastic and metal minis and one is 20 strong while the other ended up with 17. The miners look so different from the other units that I can't just modify them to make more, but who knows maybe I will find some on Ebay in the future. I also sthink I have some miners that I have built previously and if so I might include them and then I might be able to boost the units up to about 30 strong.

All these units are the old traditional Dwarfs that you could see on the battlefields of Warhammer Fantasy. But I also have two units with newer miniatures. The first unit is Longberds made from two boxes of 10, and they will be armed with axes and shields as they make a great shield wall in the Cities of Sigmar rules, also their pose looks kind of cool.

The other unit is a unit of Ironbreakers (also 2 boxes of 10 each) but they look so different from the original Ironbreakers that I have decided to make them as Irondrakes, and that will be the only ones in the army.

And speaking of Ironbrakers, I also have 8 old-style Ironbrakers that I will add to the army some way. Hopefully I can add them to an Ironbreaker unit I have made previously.

I also have some heavier weapons for the army, and that is two regular cannons and an organgun cannons with full 3-man crew for each. I also have an organgun that is missing a wheel, but I am sure I can find a solution to that with either two new wheels or one identical wheel. Actually I belive I already have as I seem to remember seeing a small plastic bag with wheels in it in my bitz-collection.

I also have a big cannon that I originally was a flamecannon, but I have decided that it just will be a big cannon called Big Bertha as I am missing the tanks that contain the fluid that makes the flames and also some of the specialized looking crew. It is also missing a base so I need to figure something up for that but I am sure I can make some sort of frame with parts from other sets. I have found a crew to work on it, and because it is such a big gun I have decided the crew will consist of four men isteadd of the normal three.

Another special unit is a unit of rangers armed with crossbows and axes and a standard bearer with a pistol. This unit is 16 strong.

The final unit is a unit of 10 warriors armed with axes and shields.

I also have one more incomplete unit with 7 various slayers. I originally thought about using Fyreslayers as slayers for my army but decided against it as they look too distinct. I might have to go on Ebay and see if I can find 3 more to make it in to a unit of 10 as that seems to be the "magical" number for Cities of Sigmar. I am quite sure they can be smaller units if I field them in the classic Dwarf army.

Then there are several characters and single miniatures. One of them is actually a unit of 3 with a lord standing on a shield being carried by two other dwarfs. He was originally planned to be my general, but things evolve...

There are 3 engineers with handguns that will be part of the Engineering guild, 4 Thanes who are leaders of the Dwarf clans, 3 dwarfs with beer (one of them is an original metal Josef Bugman-figure), and 3 beautifully sculpted old metal figures that I don't know the origin for.

The final figure is a grudge-pony.

I also have some boxes still in storage that contain a small group of figures or a single figure. This is a mix of old metal figures like Malakin Makaisson and his Goblin hewer, Thorek Ironbrow and the Anvil of Doom and what I think is either a Grugde thrower or a Bolt thrower. There are also some blister packs with among other things White Dwarf subscription figures. Some of these might be possible to add to the army, while others like the birthday figure and the movie director will be just for display purposes but they will be made at a later time.

More dwarfs

Like I have said many times before, my Cities of Sigmar army will have lots of Duardins in it. I will also use the same Duardins in my "classic" Dwarf army as the lore states that the Dwarf keep is close to the city where the Cities of Sigmar army is located.
This week I have armed (pun intended) my armless dwarf unit with axes and shields. I gave the unit a command with champion, musician and standard bearer. I have not glued on the shields, as they cover up a lot of the front of the miniature, but I will prime and paint them separately as I paint up the unit and flue them on in the end. I have decided the unit will be re-primed and painted again.

I have assembled a new unit of 20 dwarfs with command and armed with two-handed axes. I originally planned on having two-handed axes on my Longbeards, but after reading the rules for them in the Cities of Sigmar army I decided they would be better off with axes and shields, so I made this unit with two-handed axes instead.

I also brought with me the remining boxes of warriors from my storage and went through them to see what I had and what kind of units I can make. It turned out a few of the boxes were raided for parts from before and were not comlete. But I think I have managed to put together a good plan on what units to make. I also went through the minis I had in my workbench and set them together in units and the plan is to re-prime and paint them.
Some of the minis in the drawer are really nicely painted so it sort of hurts me to prime over them, but I will try my best to paint them just as wonderful. This is probably the nicest of them all...

I could choose to not re-paint them, but I have a thing that I want all my minis to be painted by me. Thre are only two exceptions, and that is a Space Wolf Space Marine that I probably will never use on the battlefield as I don't field that chapter, and the fantastically painted Iperial Knight that one of the former staff members at the Warhammer store in Oslo painted. That one will be fielded on the battlefield, but I will make sure people know who painted it if they ask me, and I will not take credit for that paintjob.

One funny thing with the dwarfs re that they were unchanged through severl revisions. I found three generations of boxes with the exactly same miniatures in them, the only difference was that the newest box had round bases instead of square.

Dwarfs or Cities of Sigmar...

I've had a unit of Dwarfs standing on my workbench for quite some time. This is not those dwarfs.
I started to paint that unit many years ago while I was working on my Dwarf keep for Armies on Parade. But I had too many Dwarfs so I decided that unit had to go. But before I got there I had started to paint their bodies so I decided to finish that. For some reson I decided to paint the arms separately, probably because I wanted to paint the unit to a high standard. But I've managed to misplace the bag or box of arms somehow, so last time I was at my storage room I decided to bring home a box I knew contained sprues hoping I could find the arms I need to finish the unit. I didn't though, but that is for later...

What I did find was some torsos that I hadn't assembled. I had many spare fronts, so I decided to make some Dwarfs. So far I have assembled four, but I have five more to assemble. I decided not to care about making a unit, so I just found some parts on the sprue and got started. I think what I have here is a command squad and a "gunner". I have found parts to make a couple more with guns and also some with crossbows.

The first thing I found was an instrument. I love making weird instruments for my musicians, and when I was looking for the arms I found this head and decided it would be cool to use on the instrument since it had the right size. For his other hand I used a pistol, so I am thinking he is the musician for a unit of gunners.

The second one I made today had the same torso as the unit I haven't found the arms for. I had already glued him together, so I didn't want to pry him apart again and change the torso. So I found a hand holding a pipe and glued that to his left hand and like the musician he got a gun in his right. It is not easy to see in these pictures, but I promise it will be visible when he is painted up.

This is the gunner I made, He is a quite simple build really, but I found a nice head with a lot of bling.

Finally I made a standard bearer to complete the command unit. I had a few different standards to choose from but decided on this as this was the most special. I gave him a gun too, to tie him in with the other two command characters. At the moment I have no idea what kind of unit they are with, but I am quite sure it is a special unit of some sort and that it will come out sometime in the future...

I mentioned earlier that I did not find the right arms to use on my armless unit, so as usual I have come up with a stupid plan. As far as I  remember there are two types of Dwarfs in the old range, it is the ones with axes and shields and it is the ones with guns or crossbows. My bet is that I have a box or two of the axe and shield units in my big box of Dwarfs, so if I take their arms and use them for my armless unit, I can replace their heads and chests with the ones that can be used with guns or crosbows and then I can convert them to that. But I will see what is in the box and no matter what I find I will make some more classic Dwarfs to use in my Cities of Sigmar army. I know I have some boxes of the newer Dwarfs and I plan to use them as Longbeards as they are a unit that still exit in the current rules. But I might leave them in the box in storage for a while though, as I have so many human units for Cities of Sigmar already at home. I also have a box of even older Dwarfs (the metal ones) that are built and painted by somebody esle, and I would love to prime them again and paint them my way. I don't know what will happen yet, but expect to see more Dwarfs here going forward.

The Leagues are here...

There has been another week, and yesterday was the release of The Leagues of Votann, a long awaited release after a long campain of teasers. First we got Squats in Neccromunda and now we have them with a new name in 40K...

I never played Squats, they were gone before I got in to Warhammer but everybody still talked about them and I thought Space Dwarfs sounded sooo cool.

I'm not sure why, but ever since I read The Hobbit as a kid I've had a thing for dwarfs. They are an exceptional race in fantasy in general and also in Warhammer. Because of that I started buing Dwarf models, then the Fyreslayers came out and I got them, then the Kharadron Overlords came swooping in like cyberpunk dwarfs and I got those too. I've later decided that the Fyreslayers ain't for me so I have decided to drop them. Dwarfs are rebrandes Duardins and they are no longer their own facion, but their models lives on in Cities of Sigmar, so I've chosen to make a Dwarf-heavy Cities of Sigmar army and I am slowly working on that.

Yesterday I read a copy of White Dwarf Magazine where 5 people are having a Killteam event and one of them is uing Astra militarum and had pictures and descriptions of his colorscheme and I liked that alot and decided to try it for my Squats, and I've been thinking a lot and if it works out I will use the same scheme for my Leagues of Votann army. I have already decided that I will not make of the known Leagues but instead create my own. I've already decided what I want their log oto look like but I haven't decided on a name. I hope the paintscheme will look asgood as I think as it mostly use colors I already have in other armeies but not in that combination.

I have also decided to boost up painting on my Sons of Behemat army as they are few but big models. I will paint my other Mega.Gargant like I did my first with Kislev Flesh as they are brothers and should look the same, but the rest of the unpainted Gargants will be painted Bugmans Glow as that paintcheme is the one I am most happy with of the four different I have tried so far. I will also use that on the future Gargants.
I will not repaint the others as I think a little diverisy is ok, and Gargants are rather filty creatures anyway so I can try and camouflage some of the biggest mistakes and hide it as part of grime and dirt.

The little I have painted this week has been on the Chaos Knight. I decided to make the plasma orange as tht is a color I haven't used yet so I figure that could work well for chaos. I need to decide what colors I can use to highlight it and make it work. I painted the tip of the weapon in orange as well, but that  did not work out so I've decided to paint it in some sort of metal color instead.

Rest of the week I have been working with planning my armies on paper, and writing some background on them. Next week will be rather busy with other things, but I will try ad get in some painting when I can.

Painting faces and COS # 7

We'll start with the Cities of Sigmar update...

Since the last update I have done some more painting and priming. All the built minis are now primed, including all the shields that will be glued on to the knights and men-at-arms later and the poles that are dug into the ground as barricades.
I have done some more painting on the general on foot, his standard bearer, the commander of the first Greatsword unit, my first wizard and three of the knights. I think I know how all their color schemes will be now.

I have also done a cool discovery with the Steam Tank, and this will affect my army and lead to some more converting. I have discoverd that the hole in the turret is wide enough for a Duardin Engineer (Cogsmith) to fit in the hole. I might have to add a plate in the turret as he probably is shorter than the original figure, but that should not be a problem as I have plenty of armorplates from my Imperial Guard vehicles. I had planned from the beginning to group the tanks together in threes, just like the artillery. They will probably be separate units, but I will paint and detail them so that they look like units of three anyway if I can find a way to add some unit colors. At least one of the three tanks will have a commander in the turret. I will see when I build the second tank how it looks with the turret closed, and if it looks good then two of the three tanks in the unit will have closed turrets. This will give me two tank commanders with the amount of steam tanks I have now, so I will have one human and one duardin commander. The remainder of the commanders will be used other places in the army.

And now for the face-paint...
Today I attended a class at the Warhammer store in Oslo to teach me to paint faces. I would have thought it was a class with 3 or 4 people attending, but it was only me.
I have painted lots of faces before, but they don't look like they have any character. That will change now hopefully. Mattias took the time to teach me how to paint with thin layers and watered down paints, and showed me how to do layering in a way that added shades and highlights in the right places. I hve seen it done in videos on Youtube before, but it was something else to try it with someone giving me good feedback and help while doing it.
Mattias also showed me a few other detailing tricks to use to add some character to the faces, and I look forward to trying different tricks on different faces.

I will try to use what I learned on the Cities of Sigmar army, but I think the army where it will really come to shine is the Imperial Guard and my Valpurgian 3rd, as they have several models without helmets so you see the entire head, while the Cities of Sigmar army mostly have faces only as they have helmets on. But I will try to apply what I have learned for all heads and faces going forward and I might even go back and redo some of the faces on minis I have completed earlier. I look forward to showing off painted miniatures in the future.

Plans for 2021 - Age of Sigmar

I thought I would split the post about the plans for 2021 up in to two - one for Age of Sigmar and one for 40.000. We will start with Age of Sigmar...

The biggest plan for 2021 is to build a Sons of Behemat army from scratch. I have an old Giant set that I've had for many years and it will be used in this army. So far I have bought two new Mega-Gargants and two regular Gargants (they come in boxes of two now). I have assembled the first Mega-Gargant and started to work on a base for him. I have also assembled the old Giant and glued him to a base. Inspired by an article in White Dwarf I decided to give him a peg leg. Unfortunately it was a little short, but a small pile of rocks at the base solved that problem perfectly.

The next plan will be to build my second Mega-Gargant and two normal Gargants, and then I will check how many more regular Gargants I need to make this a working army. At the moment I figure if each Mega-Gargant have three regular Gargant followers it will make quite a solid army. I have chosen three regular Garants as that is the maximum number allowed in one unit.

I have decided to add a bird to all the "miniatures" or bases in this army to give it my special touch. There are two birds in the box with the two normal Gargants, and I have some spares from earlier so I can also cover the Mega-gargants if there shouldn't be birds in those boxes.

The next army to build is the Kharadron Overlords. I bought a lot of these models when they were released, but I have never gotten around to do anything with them. This will change for 2021. I don't know how many points this army will be, but I will start with building what I have and see how the army looks when that is done and then supplement it if needed (or not, deep down I know I will get more models for this army no matter if I need to or not).
I have built a few minis from this army before, but only one is painted so far. I have also painted one of the smallest ships. I will decide on a paint scheme for the minis,  as I am not sure of the paint scheme I have used for the one figure that is painted. For the ships I will try my best to replicate the colors I have used, as I am very happy with that.

The third army I will work with is my Gloomspite Gitz. The plan is that part of my Sons of Behemat army also will work as mercenaries for this army if I ever get to take part in a big game. I have a lot of the old Night Goblins and Forrest Goblins (Spider Riders) for this army, and I look forward to seeing it grow. Many models are already assembled and primed and some are also painted and based. I think I will cut the finished figures that are standing on square bases off their bases and mount everything on round bases instead. The army will consist of Grots (Goblins), Gargants and lots of different Trolls. There will be lots of Squigs of different kinds as I really like them. We have gotten some new Squig riders in this range, and I already have built several units of these and more is on the way. For these units I have decided to try and add plants to the bases, and I will see if that can be done on some of the regular Grot bases as well as the big spider bases.

The fourth army are my Sylvaneth, I have two more Treelords to assemble and paint, and lots of regular trees. I know that I am missing a few character models for this army, and some medium sized models but they can be added as I go along. I know how I want to paint the models in this range, and how I want the overall look to be. I am very happy with how my two existing Treelords have turned out, and since I use contrast paints for most of the basics in this army I can get a lot done over a short period of time once the minis are assembled and primed. I have several forests that I want to build for this army. Originally I wanted a mix of the old and the new, but I found out I have so many of the old ones that I think I will stick to using them if that will work.

The fifth army are what is now called the Cities of Sigmar. I don't know if I can make this a legal game playing army, but I do want to make something of it. I have lots of scenery that I am currently working on that will look good with this army, and I have more scenery that I haven't worked on yet. One of the things I haven't worked on so far is a big castle for "the good guys" and I would love to build that in to something special. I will see how much stuff I have and how it can be assembled. Also I have lots of the old Dwarf miniatures (Duardin now) that I would love to build and paint as I generally love those figures. I plan to place these on the square bases the came with. I have some Bretonnina models as well, and I would love to build them as part of this army as well, I am sure I can find some sort of "legal" description to fit them in to the units that are accepted to use for this army.

The sixth army are my Chaos army. At the moment I don't think there are rules for building a Chaos Unlimited army, but I have mostly elements from Salves of Darkness (what used to be Chaos Unlimited), Khorne and Nurgle with a little bit of Slaanesh  in the mix. A lot of this army are Chaos Warriors and Chaos Knights that has been started a long time ago but never finished and if I just start I think I can finish quite a lot in a short time. I love the old Chaos Warrior models, and I also have a unit of the new ones that look very good (and quite similar) so I look forward to getting those done. This is apparently one of the units where Games Workshop has done a lot for gender equality in the later years and there are supposed to be many female heads with the new Chaos Warriors. I will see how they look, and maybe if I get some to spare that don't look too chaotic, I can use some of them for my Astra Militarum army.

The final army are my Ogors. I have lots of them in my storage and I think I know how I would like to paint the regular troops up. I hope I can get something done on this army for 2021 too. As far as I know they have one piece of specific scenery, and that is ordered from Games Workshop. I have used some of these models for my Astra Militarum 40K army, but there is plenty left to make up a good sized Age of Sigmar army for this faction. Lot of plastic, but also quite a lot of resin models for this range.

Long awaited update

A long time has passed since my last update. I will once again try to get better to use this blog for what it was intended.

I thought I would use this update to give you  little update on all my armies, and next time I do the same then hopefully things will show that I have achieved something...

We'll start with Age of Sigmar (Warhammer FB in the labels in this blog), and what they call The Grand Alliance of Order

The Sylvaneth army has been primed again, this time with a light primer, and I will paint almost everything but the leaves with the new Contrast paints. I have a dark brown and a dark yellowish brown that I will use for the wood parts and then I will see how I will paint the occasional weapons they have that is not wood. I will use autumn colors like orange and browns for the leaves with an occasional green leaf in the mix. I have quite a lot left to build, but I also have some of the models painted with the contrast paints. I have an idea on how I will make the bases look like Forrest, and I will try it out on a few of the smaller trees. I name all the characters in this army for the Latin names for different trees,

Duardin (Dwarfs) this army is an old one, and I have several painted units of Dwarfs that are ready for games. Some of them are not legal units in the game anymore as the Duardins have been robbed of most of their units in the latest years. Most of the painted Dwarfs were painted up for my Armies on Parade entry a few years back (2017) and this is an army I would love to revisit and finish more of. I have a big box of old metal Dwarfs that are painted  but that I would like to repaint to get them in my own colors and style, and I also have lots of boxes with units still on sprues. I even have several units that are partially built or partially painted. When I started this army they were called Dwarfs, then they became Duardin, and now the army is included in Cities of Sigmar where they work together with former Empire troops. I don't think I have much Empire stuff, but I have several Bretonnian Knights that I can paint up and use instead.
The latest addition to this army are the old metal Slayer figures, they are in the mail from different sellers in Europe.
I have an old fortress that I could build and with a few modifications use as a home town for this army. I just need some plasticard or something similar so that I can have some cannon emplacements along the walls. The leader of my dwarfs are The Low King Thorir Thorgrimsson, and I will eventually also make a human General for the human elements.

An army that is sort of a steampunk spin-off from the Duardin are the Kharadron Overlords.
I plan to have a little army of them, but it might grow big over time. I have several boxes of these short dudes to assemble and paint. So far I have started to paint some characters to try and find the look for my army, and I have also painted up one of their smallest sky vessels that I just have to add the two parts together and do the base to call it done. But I will wait a little bit with the base until I have decided on how my army will look overall.

Another duardin race is the Fyreslayers, and they were something I had planned to build a lot of, but now I am thinking of selling what I have as I don't think I have the time or the interest to make this in to an army. For now the boxes of unbuilt minis is in a big cardboard box in my basement. Instead of having a Fyreslayer army, I will have a unit of old Slayers in my Duardin army.

From The Grand Aliance of Destruction I have two armies.

Ogor Mawtribes is what was called Ogres when I started with the army. I have not planned for a huge army here, but I do have quite a lot of units still. So far I have only finished one unit of Ogor Gluttons (they too had a completely different name when I stated) and I have a unit of Leadbelchers that are assembled and awaiting priming and painting. I look forward to working more with this army as they really appeal to me.

The second army I have from this alliance is my Gloomspite Gitz. The idea for this army was to make a fun-to-play Greenskin army without the Orcs as I tried making a Black Orc unit that ended up looking like they all had chronic back-pain. Like all my armies it has taken me many years to not finish, and in the meantime Games Workshop came out with rules for just such an army that I wanted to play, called the Gloomspite Gitz.
This army do have some finished units, but still most of the units needed are in boxes. I have lots of Night Goblins that are assembled but not primed, but I also have several of the newer units that are primed and just waiting to be painted. The army will consist of lots of Goblins (and most of them Night Goblins) at least one Giant (Aleguzzer Gargant as they call them now) and this one is fully painted and based. I also think I have one more still in his box, but I might make that one to fit with my chaos army but I have to see what happens. Might be cool to do some conversion stuff and use him in this army.
I also have different kinds of Trolls (or Trogoths) that will fight along side the Gloomspite Gitz.
The leader of the army is the old figure Skarsnik with his giant pet squig. In my army he is called Turnip instead, and his squig is named Blabla.

Finally I have what could be used for several armies from The Grand Alliance of Chaos.
Personally I would love to use everything as one big undivided army, but they can also be used as smaller armies worshiping one specific Chaos God.
I have several of the newer stuff for Khorne and Nurgle, and they are made to look like they worship their specific god. But I also have regular Chaos warriors painted up that worship these Gods.
I have a small following of Slaanesh, and they can either fight with followers of other chaos gods or alongside Deamonettes. I even have quite a big fortress for the Chaos forces.

Kharadron update...

I have been working for a few more days on my Grundstok Gunhauler, and there are some progress.
There have been a few changes from my original plan along the way, but all to the better I think.

After the first layer of Stormhost Silver on the domes I was afraid my idea of using silver instead of gold would crash and burn, but after I applied a second coat it actually turned out quite well.

I had planned to make the hulls on all my ships  Eshin Gray, Stormhost Silver and Abaddon Black, but I replaced the Eshin Gray with The Fang (a light grey/blue color) and it was so much better.

Right now I am working at painting details and cleaning up the larger surfaces. Then I will add the washes I need and the drybrush, before I can glue the two pieces together.

I have been thinking long and hard as to how I would like to make the bases for this army. I believe I have landed on a solution to use the same technique as for my Deathwatch and Custodian armies in 40K. Astrogranite bases (like I have for all my Dwarfs/Duardin) but glazed with Guilliman Blue and then drybrushed Longbeard Gray. This leaves bases that could look a bit like clouds or magic, and both works well with the Kharadron army.

A bit about names

After writing a little about the names of my Imperial Guard officers in my last blogpost, I thought I would take s little time to write about how I name my characters, why I do it and who gets named.

I generally give names to the leaders and characters in my armies. I also name miniatures that stand out in certain ways and sort of demands to be known.
In addition to naming, I like to make a little background on the miniatures to say just the basic things abut them.
A good example of what kind of background I make is the background for Sergeant Bastion. I read a background in one of the old editions (4th or 5th ed I think) of Warhammer 40.000 about Sergeant Luc Bastonne, a Cadian of Noble heritage that takes every loss of his men personal. Inspired by him I made Gunnery Sergeant "Luck" Bastion, a veteran sergeant leading a squad called Bastions Bastards. Sergeant Bastion have been promoted to higher ranks several times, but have refused to accept the promotions as he likes to be on the ground in the field with his men. Once a colonel took it so personal he reported Bastion for insubordination, but the Senior Commisar in the Regiment felt it was for the right reasons and let it pass. Bastion and his Bastards are made from a Cadian squad set, modified with bits from the Forgeworld Cadian Veteran set.

For my Sergeants I just like to use names that sounds good. One will be called Remagen, but I am not sure who he is yet.
For the commissioned officers I use names from the American Civil War. A lot of them were generals in real life, but I have to demote them in my army. I do not care if they fought for the North or South, but I will not use persons I find inappropriate like Quantrill, who was a guerrilla leader fighting for the southern cause. I don't use Lee or Grant either as they are too well known for that special period (they are probably the only two names Norwegians can name along with Abraham Lincoln when asked about the American Civil War). The General in charge of the Walpurgian 3rd Brigade is Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard

For my other armies I have chosen other areas to get names from. My Space Marines chapter, The Gatekeepers, have Roman names for the Chapter Master and Captains. Now that Lieutenants have been introduced, I will use Roman names for them as well. The Apothecaries  and probably the Librarians will be named after Greek philosophers. My chapter Master is called Otho Vitellius.

My Mechanicus army, the Cohort 9-1 Alpha from the Mechanicus fleet ship Gloria Inveneris is Magos Explorator de Orellana. His commander is the commander of the entire Mechanicus fleet, and his name is Arch Magos de Sousa (I will use the Belisarius Cawl figure for this one).
They are named for famous explorers, at least explorers that come up on Wikipedia when I search for Famous ones.

I also give names to my badguys, and my Chaos Space Marine army is called The Knights of Oblivion, and their commander is Arch-Commodore Falstaff. All the named characters in this army will be Shakespeare characters of some sort.

My Orks gets their names from famous people, and they get "orkyfided"   The warboss in charge if the army is Hazza Hoff (as in David Hasselhoff) and he has his pet squig Hoobie. The figure is Grukk Facerippa, a huge Ork.

My Inquisitor army is led by Lord Inquisitor Van Dorn, a name that just came to me and for this army I will just use names I like.

I have not found any names for my Genestealer army yet, but I need to try an find out how a Genestealer would be named. Also my Chaos Daemons are without names, as daemon names should not be spoken.

For Age of Sigmar, I have no names for my Chaos Warrior armies yet, but that will come.
Like in 40K the Daemons will get no names.

My Duardin (or Dwarf) army are led by Thorir Thorgrimsson. The characters in this army will all be Icelandic or old Norwegian sounding names. The choice of Thorir for the King is a tribute to the coach of the Norwegian female handballteam Thorir Hergeirsson who is a great leader and sort of short (not saying he is a dwarf though).

The Fyreslayers are sort of cousins of the Duardin, and I figure they should have old nordic sounding names too. Maybe Icelandig sounding for them too, but at least sort of viking names.

The Kharadron Overloards are also related somehow, but maybe a little more distant. I will see how many Icelandic sounding names I can think up, if I get enough they will get those kind of names too, if not I will see if I can find some other sort of cool idea to use on them.

My Sylvaneth army are named after Latin names for all kinds of trees. So far I have named the ancient Treelord who leads the army, and its name is Quercus and this is Latin for Oak.

My greenskins army in Age of Sigmar will all get sort of querky funny sounding names, and for my leader I use the Skarsnik figure with his big squig. In my army the Leader is called Turnip, and his squig is called Blabla.

I have yet to pick a way to name my Ogres, but hopefully I can find something fitting for this nice army of big miniatures.

Armies on Parade, finished board (picture heavy)

This weekend was Parade day, and I got everything ready for the event just in time (as usual).
I was washing and basing a lot of Dwarfs Friday afternoon and in to the night.

I see that I have not taken a good picture of the lower table before I put the top on, but hopefully the pictures that are taken under the board shows what needs to be seen.

First up is two pics of the entire table, and then we'll get to closeups of the units.

At the front of the table there was a separate little cave where my White Dwarf subscription Vampire hunter model was located. This model has been laying around my workspace for a long time, but I'm really glad I pulled myself together and finished it, as I think it is a great little model. The next Subscription model to be worked on is the White Dwarf World War 1-style pilot.

Then we have come to the pictures from the mine on the lower level.  The first picture is taken from the front. The Grudge Ponies are going up the hill with full wagons. For this event they were loaded with chocolate that looks like rocks. In the front of the picture the unit with 15 Miners working in the mine can be seen from behind. Then in the middle the Ironbreakers are marching to stop the Goblins in the back. To the far right you can barely spot the old Prospector working on a potential new place to make a mineshaft.

And here are the same scenes seen from the back of the board. I am quite pleased with how the Night Goblins turned out, and look forward to painting up a whole lot of them for my greenskin army in the future.

This picture doesn't really show much of the figures, but I think it shows some of the terrain in a nice way. The small knolls were made with expanding foam (byggskum as we call it in Norway). It was just sprayed in a big lump on a piece of plastic, and when it was all dried up then I carved out the pieces I wanted to use. Next time I work on a board I might use this instead of styrofoam as it looks much more natural. This was proven by the winning entry in Oslo. She had used this material to build up hills on her board.

Here is a closeup of the Grude Pony coming out of the mine, up the ramp. I had a little accident with the moss to the left of the pic, as it was damaged in transport. So I had to do a hasty repair in store before the competition. My wife came up with the idea of attaching moss to the front and side of the opening of the mine to make it look better, and I think it worked well. Next time I plan to do something like this I want to make sure I have dry moss, as that could be glued on. The moss here is attached with wire and gluedots.

To the left of the ramp up from the mine, I had lined up my Dwarf Rangers. They are basically Quarrelers with an axe glued to their back. This used to be a separate unit entry back in the days...

This is the Warden King, and he is the leader of the dwarfs in this keep. He is standing on an oath stone in the front of the outer walls of the keep, rallying his troops around him.

Next up is my Longbeards. I only had time to paint up one box for this competition, but I have two more so this unit will grow in the future. The boxes can be made up as either Hammerers or Longbeards, but I want to use my old metal Hammerers so these new looking dwarfs will all be Longbeards. I'll make one more unit with full command, so I can field two units of 15 or one unit of 20 and one of 10.

An old metal Dwarf Thane on the left. The Thanes seems to have disappeared from the Duardin model range, and I find this a little sad as they used to be the leaders of  their clans. There are many lovely sculpts of Thanes, and I hope to find a way to use several of them in my army.
To the right is a slightly newer metal model, a Dwarf Engineer with lots of guns.
I am very happy with the beard on the Engineer, and I wish I could remember what color and wash I used to get that look as I would like to have more dwarfs looking like this. It might be the perfect color for my Fyreslayers army. I will try and experiment a bit on spare heads and see if I can recreate it.

I love the old dwarfs, so I just had to have this unit in a visible place on the board. They are in the middle of the board, and have just marched out of the keeps gates. This is a unit of 16 warriors, and they have two handed axes slung over their shoulders. They have a lot of soul and character, and quite a different look from the regular plastic dwarf warriors. They have a more slim look to them, and some of them wears leather vests or sheep skin vests outside their chainmail. They also appear to have groomed beards, not the wild and bushy beards that comes with newer dwarf boxes.
My back story for them is that they have returned from the big city where they live among humans, to assist their clan in times of war. Living around humans have made them adopt some of the human traditions in clothes and style.

The two gun crews are lined up on each side of the gate. I originally had planned to have them on top of the gates, but  in order to do that I would need to modify the gates quite heavily with plastic sheets and I never got to drag myself to a store where I could find what I needed. So I put them on each side of the gate instead. It is not so visible on the pictures, but they both have a trolley of extra ammunition, a scope for aiming and a trough for dipping the rod they use to ready the cannon in. Both cannons also have a shell inside them.
I had a gap between the wall and the mountainside, so it was fixed by adding moss to look like a bush or a small tree.

On the top of the keep a Gyrobomber is hovering. The number is just to indicate that I was the 3rd entry in to the competition, so pay no attention to that. This set was a lot of fun to build and paint right until it was time to build the rotors. I did exactly as the instructions said, and still the rotor blades did not attach perfect. I have more of these, so I will try again at a later time. I had originally planned to have a blimp, but I never got around to making the cabin on it. I will make one in the future though, and maybe a few balloons, so that my Dwarfs can have that even though their cousins (the Kharadron Overlords) have airships that they will bring in support if it is called for.

Here is another Engineer, this one is a resin model. He has a huge mechanical hammer. Sorry for the bad pic of him, but I had to take the pictures after my army was set up on the table, so I couln't get any better angle without messing up one of the units on front of the wall.

Then we have a former character, the Engineer who lost his arm and made a mechanical one. I belive his name was Burlok Damminson, but I am not sure what he will be named in my army yet. In the Games Workshop catalogue he is now only known as Cogsmith. I think it's really sad that they removed so many nice characters without introducing new ones, but at least they kept many of the models in the range.

Here are my two Runelord figures. The figure came with alternate heads and arms, so naturally I had to buy two so I could make one of each. They will get names eventually...

This is the last unit I finished before the competition. It is 16 warriors with hand weapons and shields. I like this configuration, as I love the shields the dwarfs have.
I plan to have more Dwarfs armed like this, but also some Warriors with two handed weapons to have this configuration represented as well.
There is a big possibility that this unit will be extended to 30 warriors in the not too distant future.

I also managed to paint up a unit of Irondrakes. Originally I wanted to have more Ironbreakers, but the new plastic Ironbreakers looks so different from the old metal ones that I made them in to Irondrakes instead. I have more boxes of these, so I will do the same as with the Longbeards longer up in this post, and make it so that I can use larger or more units depending on the gameplay. I would also like some more of the old Ironbreakers, so I might look around for some used ones to repaint.

And finally I have two more Grudge Ponies These are loaded with equipment, so I felt it would be better to have them above ground. These will accompany the Dwarfs on their march to war, carrying equipment to the front, and maybe some riches back to the Keep when the fighting is over.

All in all this was a nice event, and there were plenty of people who came by to look and vote. I do not know how many votes I got (and I don't really want to know either). I have come a long way towards getting a Dwarf army ready for the tables by working on this project, and I have many more dwarfs to come in the future. For a little while now I think I will work on something else, but I will continue to expand my Dwarf army until all sets I have bought are assembled, primed and painted.
And who knows, when that is done, I might return to the army and make another display just for my self...

Armies on Parade - Board update

Yesterday I told about the snags I had while building the Armies on Parade (AoP) board, and that I felt it looked a bit like something a 10-year old kid would do for his home project.
I complained even more to my wife about it from the day I started working on the board and experience the snags, and while I was out leading a youth bigband yesterday she helped me a bit with the finish of the mine (the lower table).
For a long time she has been into scapbooking, and she know a thing or two (maybe even three or four) about washes, shading, and things like that as this is techniques that also is used in that hobby. So she made the mine come more to life with some shadows on the recessed areas and a bit more light where that could be expected. And also she added on some gold and silver areas in the mine, to show off that there are rich mineral ores down there.
I am very grateful for her assistance, and I think the board increased its quality at once. There are still some work to do on the top table, but this is minor work compared to what needed to be done down in the mines.

My board will automatically look a little less shiny compared to other boards for many reasons. First mine is made of plywood and is thinner and flatter than a Games Workshop tile, second it is a mountain area, so it is mostly gray compared to other boards that can have more color on them.
I had hoped to use a Games Workshop tile for my top, but when I got to the store to see if they had tiles for sale, they were sold out on the Age of Sigmar tiles, and the 40K tiles were city tiles and they are way too futuristic for my purpose. So I ended up with plywood both on top and on the bottom.
And even though my tiles are Mechanicus Standard Gray (with some added shades and highlights) I plan to brighten them up a bit with the dwarfs I bring to the table.
The dwarfs uses many colors, and some of them are quite striking while others are more neutral. There are metal, silver, bronze, gold, greens, blues, yellows and other colors to help lighten the table up a bit. There are also quite a lot of figures that will go on the tables:
Down in the mine I will have 2 Grudge Ponies with carts, and a third on the ramp going either up or down.
20 Nightgoblins as one unit
15 Dwarf Miners working along one wall
1 Dwarf Prospector (old Miner) working as a sort of mini diorama, on a little hill down in the mine. He will have a wheelbarrow and dynamite around him.
10 Dwarf Ironbrakers (the old metal ones) marching to stop the Nightgoblins

and in a special cave I have the White Dwarf subscription Vampire hunter miniature with a coffin with a goblin in it.

On the top table there will be:
2 Grudge Ponies pulling carts loaded with equipment that the dwarfs will carry to war with them.
2 Dwarf Engineers
1 Dwarf Warden King
1 or 2 Dwarf Runelords (little uncertain if I have 1 or 2 of them)
10 Longbeards
10 Irondrakes
20 Dwarf Rangers with crossbows and axes
16 Dwarf Warriors with shields and hand weapons
16 Dwarf Warriors with long axes (the old type of plastic dwarfs)
3 Goblin Nasty skulkers
2 Cannons with 3 Dwarf crew each (6 figures in total)
1 Dwarf Gyrobomber (helicopter)

This leaves me with 47 figures on the lower level, and 86 figures on the top level (if I get to place them all I will see how much space it actually takes when I set up the board). That is a grand total of 133 figures.
As promised yesterday, pics will come. I will try to take some pictures on Friday while finishing the boards, and then I will take pictures as I set the board up on Saturday.

Armies on Parade - just a few days away now...

It's just a few days left until Armies on Parade for Age of Sigmar (they split it in two this year and completely forgot the Middle Earth/Hobitt brand while doing it).
My Dwarf board looks like something a 10-year old has put together at the moment, but I am hoping that with a little touch-up with some more paint and details it will look ok before I go to bed on Friday night.
I have encountered almost every snag possible on this project. First of all my glue did not set as I supposed. I bouth special glue for styrofoam, but insted of melting the two plates together it made a small gap between them. But they stuck togehter for the most part... This was very obvious when I started to cut the plates in to the correct basic shapes.

Then the plates were cut in to rough shapes, but now it was almost impossible to cut them in to the detailed shape I wanted to make the mountan sides. Here you can see my design drawn on the styrofoam, but it diodn't end up quite that way.

I thought I could make some nice terrain with plaster, but that dried so fast it was dry before I got it out of the mixing bowl.So the result looked like this when I gave up. The rest of the board was painted over with PVA glue. This took 24 hours to dry, so I lost a lot of time to work on the board while I waited for this. I had thought it might take some hours, but not 24...

There are quite a lot of dwarfs that needs to be painted up and based. Here are some work in progress pictures from the weekend. They are now painted up, but still needs their bases done and a thin layer of wash.

My centerpiece on the top board is the tower gate, and this is what it looks like after wash but before I tried drybrushing it. I was so sure I had gray dry-paint to use for the drybrushing, but that was about the only paint pot I didn't have when I looked through my paint boxes. So I ended up using regular paint and making sure I got most of it out of the brush before I stated. This is the one thing I am satisfied with on the board so far.

The plan for Friday is to base about 60 dwarfs, wash about 30 more and about 25 goblins. Then I will clean up some paint on the boards and add some streaks of gold and silver down in the mine and glue some turf and moss to the top board. Somehow I don't think my wife will see a lot of me before after the AoP event is over...

I will add some pictures of the finished board when I set it up at Games Workshop on Saturday, and post it here when I get home.

More Dwarf progress

Another weekend has passed, and things are still going the right way.
This weekend I have completed the Longbeards and Miners from the last post, so that they now just need their bases done and a thin coat of wash to finish them off. I will do that when I have some more units ready, as this can be done as part of an assembly line.

This weekend I completed my Subscription only Vampire hunter model. The base is done, but I will need to give everything a thin coat of wash after I have glued the different parts together.
I am quite pleased with how it turned out, and while painting this I have found a new color to use for the skin of my Goblin army when I continue to work on them. One unit will be done up for the Armies on Parade (AoP) board, as they will have sneaked in to the mine, and I am hoping to have some Nasty Skulkers ready to hide out on the top level of the board as well.

I have also started to assemble my first Gyrobomber (the long version of the Gyrocopter), and I hope to get this done so that I can add it to my board. The hardest painting is already done, as it was a whole lot of details on the pilot and inside the cockpit that was painted up earlier. This will never be seen, but I was not 100% sure of that when I painted it.
I still have to assemble the rotors, and I will probably do that later this week, and then paint them up separately.
I will need to give everything a nice coat of paint before I assemble any more, as there are lots of details that will be very hard to reach once everything is assembled. But I have a clear plan for what I need and want to do, so hopefully it should be rather easy to get it all painted up in the timeframe I have to my disposal.

The next unit to be painted up is the Imperial Dwarfs, and they have gotten a lot done to them this weekend. I have painted their heads, and glued them on to the torsos I had painted earlier.
All the arms are fully primed. The arms carrying the axes have gotten the first color on them (Rhinox hide for the axe handles) and will get more paint this afternoon.
I love these old Dwarfs as they have a lot of character, and I hope to do them justice so that people who see my board on Parade day will be positive to them. They will be quite visible, as they will be in front of the wall or mountain side, marching towards the Dwarf camp to join up for the battle the Dwarfs are rallying for.

So far I am thinking of putting my Miners and Ironbreakers on the lower level, along with the Vampire hunter and an old Miner figure. If I have time I will make a small mini diorama around the old miner. I will also put some Grudge Ponies in the mine and on the ramp going up or down.

On top there will be some characters (finished), some Engineers (one finished one needs wash), my Ranger unit (finished) the Imperial Dwarfs, and if I get them done in time I have one unit of warriors, one unit of Irondrakes and a unit of Thunderers that can join the army. Also the Gyrobomber will stand on top of a mountainside and I will have a gate that will be guarded, hopefully, by two cannons with crew.

finally some real progress on dwarf units

As the headline says, I finally have some real progress on my dwarfs for Armies on Parade.
The event is on October 28th, so I have just about a month to finish up. After spending almost two years and not getting much finished (but a lot is partially painted), I have finally gotten some real progress.

Yesterday I finished painting the arms and weapons on my first 10 Longbeards. They will be the only Longbeards for the AoP board, but I will paint up 20 more in the future in the same way. It felt good gluing them together and seeing them as a unit for the first time. There are still a little work before they are 100% complete, but not much.
I have some shoulder guards to glue on and paint, and the banner needs to be finished and glued to the arm of the banner bearer.
I am still debating as to what color to use on the details of the banner, as there is a wide seam that should be in a contrasting color to the banner itself. The banner is purple, and I am thinking either silver or light gray for the seams, but I am not entirely sure yet. I will have to look in to it this afternoon.

Pictures will be posted when this work is done.

I have also done about 90% on my Miners unit. There are a few details that I need to paint on some of the Dwarfs, and they need a cleanup before they get a gentle wash. But I would have no problem bringing them to the tabletop for a game as they stand today.
Pictures of these will follow.

I am also working on a single model to be located at a special place on my AoP board, and that is the Grombrindal dressed as a Vampire slayer. He was sold with a one year subscription on White Dwarf some years back, and I now see real progress in the process of presenting him in the display.
The base is done, and all parts are assembled and primed.
I started this weekend by painting the skin on his face, but when he is standing up the brim of the hat hides most of it. I will paint his beard gray, as I did with my Longbeards, and his coat will be brown leather. Then I am trying to figure what colors I want to use for the smaller details.

The base is a stone floor, and on top of that there is a table with a coffin on top. The table is falling apart and a goblet of wine is falling off it. In the coffin there is a Goblin vampire, and I am trying to find out what paint that is best to use to give him sort of a pale green skin.
The table and coffin is painted up and glued together, but I am missing some metal details on the coffin. And I have to paint the goblin inside it...

The next step now is to finish the units and character mentioned above to 100% and then take their pictures.

Then I will start this afternoon to prime the weapons of the next unit that needs finishing, as I have several Dwarf units that are waiting to have their arms and weapons primed and painted. I need to finish three units like this before the parade day, and I would also like to paint a fourth unit that is assembled in the time I have left. I also need to build and paint my board, and my gate and maybe some trees to go on top of it.

Progress on new units

I have gotten in some more painting time, and there are two units that are progessing nicely.
They are: Dwarf Miners, 15 Dwarfs with musician and standard bearer. I'm not sure where I have them from, but I think they may have been bought on Ebay a long time ago.
My first unit of Miners that I painted many years ago got very dark, with the darkest of blue on their armor, so this time I wanted to do something a little lighter. I went for Death Guard Green, as it looks like a little muted color that I haven't used on any other dwarf units yet.
The chainmail is painted Leadbelcher instead of a more shiny metal color as the Miners wear their armor as much for protection in their daily work as for going to war. I hope to get some more painting done on them this weekend, as I am missing the hair, candles on top of their helmets (with flames on the candles) and some details (lanterns, leather pouches, golden medallions and so on).

The second unit I am working on is a unit I have started some time ago. That is my first unit of Longbeards, 10 Dwarfs with full command. The torsos have been "almost ready" for a while, but now I have primed the arms and heads and have started to paint the heads. My plan is to paint the beards before gluing the heads to the torsos so that I don't spill a lot of gray paint on to the already painted torsos. The arms and shoulderguards are being primed seperately, and I plan to keep them like that until they are painted and ready to be glued on to the torsos.
When this unit is done I can start to prime arms for my Thunderers as I don't have space for too many different small pieces on my table at the same time.

I also have an old metal Miner that I am painting up, and my plan is to have him standing by himself working on locating new oars to mine down in the lower level on my AoP board. The idea is to set him up so that he is visible from at least two sides when you look in to the board.
I think it's cool to see the difference between this old dwarf and the newer figures, as this metal figure has a much more outstanding nose that gives him a totally different character compared to the newer dwarfs that GW have produced. That is some of the beauty (hopefully people seeing my board will agree) of showing off models from different times and ages mixed up together. They are all legitimate GW figures, but some of them are just from a forgotten generation. I am sure the GW team will remember them, but not sure that the young people in the store have ever seen these old metal figures.

I have also sorted all my Chaos models, and placed them in tubs after what chaos god they worship. I didn't think I had that many Chaos Warriors, but almost all the tubs have 20 or 30 warriors in them. But then again, they are the models that introduced me to the Warhammer hobby so they have a special place in my heart.

There are four gods, but I only have figures to follow three of them.
I have a large goup of Chaos warriors that follow Khorne, and that tub also includealmost all the new Blood-something releases that came with the Age of Sigmar starter set and after. There are also some heavy cavalry, represented by 6 Scullcrushers (and I think I have more somewhere else)
The Nurgle tub have the largest model in my army, the Maggoth Lord Bloab Rotspawned, along with several relatively new Nurgle models from the end times releases. Also there are some Plaguebearers, Plague Drones, two sorcerers and the big unit of Chaos Warriros.
The third tray is dedicated to Slaanesh, and here I have a big unit of Chaos Warriors (seeing a pattern yet?) a Sorcerer, and when I find the box he is currently in, I will move Sigvald the Magnifient over to this box. Along with this gang I can field my Daemonettes, and a chariot but they are not in this box.
The last box have the units that doesn't have a Chaos mark, what used to be known as Chaos Undivided. These are Chaos Warriors that will have black armor  and in this box I also have a large chunk of Warriors, some Chosen ones, some Knights in all stages from just awaiting to be based to just been taken off the sprues and a lot of hounds that is only missing their bases.
When my dwarf army is ready for AoS I will try and spend some time painting and basing my Chaos army alongside building other Age of Sigmar sets and 40K stuff.
