In the beginning...

Once upon a time there was a little boy (well not that little really)...
He came across a box of three small figures that seemed easy to assemble. But the most important thing for him was that they looked cool. He already had glue from building a lot of 1:35 scale models, and he had a lot of brushes to paint them with. So he bought the box along with Citadel paints, and that was supposed to be it...

This not so little boy was me, and I've just emerged from my workshop containing a whole lot of Warhammer boxes. The desition to buy just one box were changed to just buy Chaos Warriors and then changed yet again to only buy traditional warhammer miniatures. The final change (so far) includes also buying Warhammer 40.000 Space Marines (what can I say, I've got a thing for Marines).

On this pic the models are still missing the last brush-up and the bases have not been worked on yet. The plan was originally to use fine aquarium sand, but after trying that on some black orcs I ended up using a mix of two kinds of static grass instead. They have also been sprayed with matt varnish to make them ready for dioramas or gaming.

This was also a chance to try using inks, but it soon was clear that I didn't do it right. I've done a little reading on the subject now, and found out that I should try agiain on another model in the future. The result on this one still worked out ok, though it was a little messy. I've used chestnut ink on the gold on the shield of the left warrior.

It was important for me that these miniatures looked quite mean, but still passable as goodguys if I found someone meaner to use as enemies (and all of a sudden I bought some big, mean, black orcs).

This was a very simpe unit to put toghether, but it didn't leave much room for changing from the original scheme. But that was just fine for my purpose.
The color scheme used here will be used for my enitre mortal chaos undivided army. There will probably be some variations, but the main scheme is set.

I've used the following colors for these models:
The plated armor, the helmets, the boots and the shields are all Chaos Black.
The chainmail and the weapons are painted in Chanimail
The axe handles and the capes are painted Scorched Brown.
The golden details are pure Shining Gold, but the shield on the left has then been painted over with Chestnut Ink giving it a little more "used" look.
The fur on top of the capes is painted Graveyard Earth.
The horns and sculls are painted bleached bone.
