Need to see the big picture

I have decided that I will go through my collection of minis and get a general status on what I have made, what I have started but not finished, and what is still in the boxes.

As far as I can count I have 7 armies (Chaos, Dwarfs, Greenskins and Ogres for Fantasy, and Astra Militarum (Imperial Guards), Orks and Space Marines for 40K). I also have Imperial Knights who have their own codex, but I don't think I will field tham as an army of their own. Instead they will be used as allies to my Space Marines or Imperial Guard. If I shoud field them alone it would have to be for some special occation.

I also have scenery both for Fantasy and 40K, and some minis bought because I like them but with no intention of creating an army for them.

To avoid the status of the armies filling up a blogpost that is impossible to read, I figure I should make one post for each army. I will then do my best to get some pictures of what is finished for each army, what awaits basework, what is in different states of assembly, and a list over what is still in boxes or bags awaiting assembly.
I think this is the best way to show picturs of what I have made earlier, as I see that I have promised so many pictues that hasn't been delivered in this blog earlier. So it is about time to do something with it.

It might not be the most interesting to see what I have in boxes, but it would help me a lot to try to find focus on what to do in the future, and that is a big point with this blog for me.

Also it gives me a chance to present my new hobby room, and that is also something I have promised earlier.

Need a slow day to paint...

I decided to build something new to me yesterday, so I assembled a set of 3 Space Marine Bikes.
They vere originally Dark Angels from the Dark Vengenace starter box, and I believe they were Ravenwing, as they have the classic "staff" at the back of the bikes.
My Space Marine army is not Dark Angels, so I carved off all the Dark Angel insignia from the bikes and Marines, but have not removed the classic "tail" yet. I am not sure if I should keep it or not, but if I decide to take it off it is easily done at a later time.
I will see what I do with insignia on all my previously assembled marines when I unpack them from their temporary transport boxes in the near future. The best would be to have an entire army without insignia from other chapters, but I know there are some places where there will be difficult to remove it and I am not sure if I'm willing to try if it will damage a good mini. Then I'd rather think up a fluff reason for the insignia being there. For command figures, one such reason would be that the insignia is a part of the armour and that the Marines don't want't to disgrace it by taking it away.

The bikes were a "snap-tite" version of the real bikes, and they were sculpted to look like they were in action. Just to compare I opened up a box of Ravenwing bikers, and found that they are not sculpted in the same way. The "snap-tite" figures are usually not as detailed or as easy to pose (weird, I know) as the regular boxes. These bikes that I have assembled now are posed to look like they are speeding along, but once I figured out that I needed to get the torso of the driver attached to the bike before I glued the bike together it was quite easy to assemble (one biker needed to be glued on the old way because I discovered it a little late, the other two was assembled according to the design).
It was quite easy to fit, except for the sargeant where I could not get his right arm to fit with the torso no matter how I twisted the torso. So I will need to use a little liquid Green Stuff to fix that when it's time to paint it up.

I also recieved a package from AA Wargames through Ebay this week. The package contained three Imperial Guard heavy weapon teams with mortars, one old Ork trukk (that I plan to use as a war buggy), and one weird piece of scenery that looks like the cog boys of the Mechanicus have gone wild. According to the description it is a communication array from the Imperial Bastion set. I plan to use it as a communication array in my ruined city, one of the few things that is not ruined yet...
I feel like I need to write a background piece on the ruins some time in the future, might have to build some more buildings first though.

Demolisher finished, Trukk started

I have finished building the Leman Russ Demolisher, and it is now redy for painting.
I have not glued the search light and the smoke launchers yet, but this will be glued on after the paintjob is done.
I have decided on a 3 tone camo, where dark gray and black will be the two dominant colors, and a lighter gray will be used a few places as a contrast. I have decided to paint the ring under the turret in a yellow tone, as I like the look this gave my previous Leman Russ. This will be the identifier for the tanks of the 1st Armoured Batallion. I will see if I can find a way to add some turret identification to the Super heavies as well, since I have a Baneblade done, and more on the way.

Yesterday I started on the Ork Trukk that came in the Ork Batallion box that I bought when I started Orks. I thought it might bea good thing to build both the Trukk and the bikes to get the box off my workspace.
The Trukk will need some painting before the asembly can go much forther now, as it will be difficult to access all areas when I start to glue it together.
So far I have made the chassis with wheels and engineblock, and also the flatbed.

The Mechanicum is working...

Last night the hull of the first Leman Russ Demolisher was laid down. So far I have assembled the basic hull and added all of the tracks.
The tracks on the Leman Russ tanks are quite a genious system, where the different track parts are marked and it is a very easy fit. Hopefully Games Workshop will keep this solution also when newer versions will be released in the future. Having built a lot of scale models in my days I have seen lots of different ways to build tracks, with mixed success. But I like the way Games Workshop does it for the "Russ" and that is good as I have several Chimera based vehicles and Russ variants waiting on the shelves to be assembled.

Along with painting up this new Demolisher, I plan to do some modifications to the paint on the Leman Russ with Battlecannon that I have built earlier. I gave that a camo pattern with lots of yellow, and over time I have found that this is not as I want it.
I need to get some camo on my Baneblade as well, and maybe I will do that at the same time too. The Baneblade is painted in a dark gray today, and it looks a lot like it is just out of the factory.

I'm thinking of a camo scheme to match my Guard troopers, something along the lines of a hull painted in a dark gray, then camouflage pattern added with a main contrast color of black, and then use some sort of lighter gray for the contrast. This gives the tanks dark gray and black as the two main colors, and I think that will look good.
The Leman Russ I have painted now can be modified by painting the black parts on the camo that is there today in a light gray, and then painting over the yellow with black.

I plan to give the tanks some company colors by painting a small area under the turret in a contrast color. For the Russ that is already painted, this will continue to be yellow, and then I will find colors for the different tanks and vehicles (I think the same idea is possible for the Chimera-based vehicles) depending on the battlefield tasks they are supposed to perform.

All vehicles and tanks will also get company markings on the sides, but what colors I will use here has not been decided yet.

Got some more scenery done today, and also the Inquisition has appeared...

I feel that I am on the roll now with the miniature assembly. That is one step closer to having more finished miniatures, and it feels quite good to be back. The next step is to start painting it up, and I hope to start doing that sometime in the comming week.

Today I have assembled two boxes.

First I did the Honoured Imperium set, with a statue of a Space Marine, a small ruin that looks like it has come of a Shrine of the Aquila, and a huge broken Imperial Eagle in stone (on the box they call it an aquila).

The ruin will be located near the ruined side wall of my original shrine, as the shrine I have modified is too big and too compact to have any huge chunks blown off it.
The ruined stone Impeial Eagle will be in front of the modified Shrine of the Aqiula, as it is logical that is has been a part of a square or something similar, and it is natural to have had something like that in front of this big Shrine.
The Statue will probably be close to that as well, but it can really be used anywhere I feel like having it.
I have one more set like this on the shelves, and I think I will try to make the other statue an integrated part of a future building.

The other set I assembled was a Wall of Martyrs Vengeance Weapon Battery.

I think Citadel had some problems with their moulds on this one, as the set had the most mouldlines I have ever seen on a Citadel plastic set. It was quite easy (but time consuming) to clean though, and all in all I think the two batteries will be a good addition to the Wall of Martyrs.
For this box Citatel had removed all parts from the sprue in order to get the pieces in to a smaller box (probably), and this also gave me some extra work cleaning off all the points where the parts were clipped from the sprues. Still, it was very tidy with everything packed so that one bag was for one cannon (was two bags in total), and every part was ok. Just took some extra time cleaning and preparing for assembly. When that was done the assembly in it self was rather simple.

The weapon batteries comes in two different types, one battlecanon and one punisher gatling cannon, so I built one of each. I am quite sure I have one more box of these on my shelves, so the plan is to do the same with that box in order to get two of each.

I also started to repair an old version of the Ork Trukk that I bought on Ebay a while back. It was not damaged in the picture, but it was a "what you see is what you get" auction so it might have been me not looking closely enough before I bought it or it might have been damaged in the mail. Seeing how it was packed both answers are highly possible. It will take some time repiring it, as I need to make each part set before I can glue on the next broken part, but I think it will be ok after repairs and a good orky paintjob.
My plan is to use this as a warbuggy as I don't intend to buy any of those. It mightt work, since the old trukk is a lot smaller and a totally different shape than the ones that are made now and that I have a few of (and will field as trukks).

I also assembled a finecast model of an inquisitor with a powersword and a special gun that looks a bit like it could have been from the Warhammer Fantasy sets and not 40K. The entire Inquisitor looks like he could belong there come to think of it, except for the powersword and some pieces of modern armour. But that was the entire reason I bought him (it's an online only miniature). I don't plan to field an Inquisition army, but I thought he might look good alongside my Space Marines or Imperial Guard on some occations. And he might get a retinue of Sisters of Battle, as I have a handful or two of those as well and have no plans to field a Sisters army (unless Games Workshop finally releases them all in plastic in the future).

Stormboyz "assembled"

Da Night Raidaz own Big Mek (Mek Gyvver) has been productive today.
He has produced 10 rokkit packs and the warboss has found 10 boyz crazy enough to strap them to their bodies, and they are now undergoing basic training.

I have assembled the bodies and heads for 8 of them, and the remaining two have bodies that makes it neccessary to paint them before assembly. The 8 assembled have also gotten heads.
All 10 rokkit packs are assembled, and are waiting to be mounted on the back of the orcs when everything is painted and ready.
All 10 also have arms selected, and the ones who have skipped their choppa or slugga to take stikkbombz will have a slugga or choppa attached somewhere to his body. Most of the Stormboy have the arms attached, but as with other details, where it gets in the way of the painting it is just laying beside them for now.

I now have 493 points of Ork troops assembled (bot much more in the shelves), and hope to start painting one of the days in the near future. I think I have an idea of how I want the general look of the army to be, but I will see how the colours match together before I take the final decition. But that the main colours will be green, red and black is rather obvious I think.
Green skin, black armour, after all they are night Ridaz, and red details. The bikes will be red, and some trukks will probably have some red on them as well, so I think that will fit nicely on some armour detail as well. But how much is yet to be decided.

Started to add to my Ogres

When I built my first box of Bullgryns I wanted to use some heads from the Ogres to make them special.
Because of this I opened a box of leadbelchers, and took a head from there.
So now I decided to build the box of leadbelchers, in order to see what heads I have touse on fuure bullgryns.

I haven't done very much so far, but yesterday afternoon I spent some time cutting all the parts I need from the sprues, and putting them in nice piles, so I know what to use for each leadbelcher.
There were four in the box, so I found heads with a burning stick (they need to light the cannon fuses after all) for three of them, and the fourth have a gnoblar with a burning stick sitting on his right shoulder.

I will use more extra bits and pieces to make them special, things like powderhorns and pouches, but I keep it on the sprues until I have painted the ogres so I don't loose it.

Da boyz in da hood

I spent several hours assembling ork boyz this wekend.

I made one unit of 12 boyz, 10 armed with shootas, 1 armed with rokkit launcher and 1 nob with a boss pole and power claw.
I'm thinking of giving them a trukk as a dedicated transport, but this will be done sometime in the future. At the moment I only have 1 trukk in my collection and I'm not sure what to do with that (not assembled yet).

I also made a unit of 21 boyz, where 2 boyz was upgraded to have the big shoota, 1 was upgraded to a nob with bosspole and powerclaw, and 18 were built with a wide selection of Choppas and Sluggas (in human words this means some kind of knife or axe and a gun).
I chose to give several of the Boyz chain-knives as they looked to be quite fearsome, and that should be something that an Ork could appreciate.

The orks that have choppas and sluggas are fully assembled, while the orks with two handed weapons will have their arms glued to them after they are painted. This to make sure that I get to paint them to a tabletop standard.
